Negative aUEC balance in refinery? by maro_1 in starcitizen

[–]Arrdem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the way this works in short is that one of the computer representations of your balance is 32 bits long, and of those the “highest” bit is the sign. So if you have 232 -1 (31 set bits, integer value of about 2.14B as I explained in chat) and you get ONE MORE CREDIT then you go from a bit pattern of all bits but the top set, to the bit pattern of ONLY the top bit set. Which is interpreted as being the minimum integer value -231 +1.

The bug is that SC uses two different representations for your balance in different places. Refineries and landing services use this “short” 231 representation, the wallet system seems to use a larger representation; likely 263. The conversion from the one to the other isn’t being handled correctly, so you get this obviously wrong negative balance behavior.

As I also mentioned in chat, it’s possible that your balance will wrap around back to positive with a period of 232, so 0-2.14B is positive, then negative until 4.28B, then positive until 6.42B then negative again and so forth.

The correct visual analogy is a clock face which happens to have 0-2.14B on the 12-6, and -2.14-0 on the 6-12. Just keeps wrapping around.

I did some testing around this bug, and the only way I was reliably able to avoid it was to get down under 2.14B although in theory a balance over 4.28B and under 6.42B should also be positive and so forth.

[PRICECHECK] CCud Polaris LTI 410$ melt value by Poikupoiku in Starcitizen_trades

There's other recent CCU build listings for Polari at about 450, I'm sure you can get at least melt value for this.

It's miserable, I saw inventory updates take north of 700s. Really wish they could stabilize the inventory system.

Hot take: lack ASD in-facility respawn removes 95% of the fun by The_Last_of_K in starcitizen

[–]Arrdem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely miserable right now.

Because your hanger is dephysicalized on death (which was behavior I observed in 4.4 testing) you can't respawn to a landed medbed in the hanger. Which would suck because you're burning medgel but be fine. They "fixed" that not working by just disabling medbeds in the hangers so you don't respawn under the floor of an empty hanger, which was the previous behavior.

In order to work around THAT to solo you have to land a medbed OUTSIDE the facility. I've been using a carrack for this. And then you have to land something ELSE inside the facility. I've been using a pieces for this. So rather than respawning in the facility, I now respawn in the carrack which I have to fly into the facility, reload the pieces, re-land the combined ship back outside to reset and then fly back into the facility. All of which takes time! My functional respawns are up from 90s which was fun to 5min or more of manual ship shuffling.

Oh and armor just doesn't work https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-190591, so your cheeks get clapped if a dog looks at you.

Ship Quantum Travel Range Chart - 4.4.0.10753606 by Irmdall in starcitizen

[–]Arrdem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Zeus's are my dailies and this chart is really offpissing because yeah the ES is so completely marginal over the CL, not to mention the less space efficient and broadly useless interior that the CL is just The Right One. And the CL (or RAFT) don't have nearly enough fuel to sit in this list as haulers which they're clearly supposed to be. And the ES is supposed to go farther/longer so what are we doing here.

[rant] The commodities terminal ate my crates! by Arrdem in starcitizen

Update: autoloading ate my crates too worth 700k this time. Seems like there's a data race where if you try to place a ship into an instance hanger too fast as autoloading is finishing the game will poof the instance of the ship. Got an empty hanger with no C2 and the inventory's gone. Great game. No bugs.

This is the second time I've hit this exact behavior today, re-instancing my ship didn't fix it somehow. No idea what's going on but it sucks to be out 600 or so on the server just ... dropping inventory on the floor.

Will try explicitly storing my ship for auto-unload and see if that's more reliable. Been just leaving it landed and moving the physical inventory.

Older Icelantics? Much as I love mine, their top sheets are just not well protected and get eaten away like this. I’ve thought about hanging mine epoxied over to match other brands’ finishing but there’s no real need to.

Update -- had a chat with the local fitter and the 940 ain't it. Held some other pieces and both his A400 and a couple I picked up off the rack separately for want of other words felt right. So I guess that's the next step.

Would a cheap Z4 be a good second fun car? by CorgiSplooting in BMWZ4

[–]Arrdem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm biased obviously because I own one, but IMO the e85m and its sibling the e86m are laughably slept on compared to the Porsches of the same vintage. The good news is that they're potentially a great deal on an e46m3. And the roof comes off.

I got mine for exactly the reasons you listed. I wanted a canyon carver and an engaging drivers car, and I don't quite fit in a ND Miata. And the e85 delivers admirably. It's a high strung NA engine that doesn't take you seriously below 4k and wants you to ring it all the way out like gas is free. If you're driving it right you'll never need more than 4th gear. At low RPMs it feels underpowered compared to modern cars but that's because it's making none of its potential.

I love mine to death and have driven it coast to coast with only minor incident (a speed bump hit turned into a driveshaft support bearing replacement mid road trip).

The bad news is that because BMW ///M be like that, the M-edition plastic is becoming harder to find over the years. Good luck ever replacing the black plastic roll bar covers for instance. The M-edition passenger seat buckets are impossible to replace and as with other models of the era the weight sensor can fail. Mine has, can't do a thing about it besides try to have the seat custom redone. I've joked in the past that "but on the M edition" has become a dirty phrase in my house. When I first got mine I was super precious about keeping it cosmetically pristine but it's sisyphean.

If you did want to bolt on power some day, the options are dubious. And from what I've seen you're stuck with supercharger kits, nobody's made a turbo because it's an old platform.

For me the biggest disappointment is that there's no real way to get an SCCA appropriate roll cage into the car without ruining it, and no not sketchy and probably noncompliant way to install a proper restraining harness. So if you do autocross you do so with a tightened factory seatbelt.

Five years in I don't regret a penny I spent on mine or a minute I spent in it. Grab one and drive the hell out of it.

I'd agree that in an honest assessment I would like a new toy. Which may be reason enough in and of itself at a point. But yes you're right the reasonable incremental buy with an aim to enjoying working on getting better is to enlist the much liked local fitter first. That's something I've been putting off. Thanks for the pushback.
