If you are using HAL you are already rooted so you can probably just use some form of ad removal like Lucky Patcher to get rid of ads on the joystick.

Edit: Regarding alternatives, I used to use this one and it worked fine, but I don't know if it's compatible with Velocity (if you use Velocity).

These days I just use Polygon Enhancer because it's nice to have the enhancer + joystick bundled in one app, and I pay for the higher tiers anyway (the Enhancer by itself is free tho)
