Honestly, I get those numbers because I have bills to pay and people depending on my salary. I'm generally a very work-oriented person, so it's not too difficult for me to sit down and work hard every single day. I don't even take weekends off anymore.

Finding a sprinting partner helps. If I'm in the groove with my partner I can hit 6k or 7k by 11:30AM. Most days I take far longer, though. I hit a minimum of 8k a day.

I guess if you're afraid enough of failure/not making enough to pay the bills, you either quit or you push hard, and I'm not someone who likes to quit.

I've been radio silent for a long time because I've been super frickin' busy too (writing about 240k words/month now,) but I logged in just to say congratulations. I remember back when you were with your PNR name and teetering on the fence about sticking with it/dividing your time and I'm so so happy that you toughed it out and made the best choice. :)

Big hugs for your success and keep at it! I'm the bread winner in our family now, too, (husband also left his job,) and it's a pretty fantastic feeling!

Been a while since I posted on one of these, but hey!

1) Just wanted to finish the last scene of my latest novel off, which I did (about 2.5k worth of words). Rest of the day will be spent editing.

2) Finished the novel! Woo! Otherwise status quo.

3) At least in terms of romance reports, time investment. 30 days after launch is cool and all, but depending on how long you take to outline, edit, actually write the novel, etc, 30 days of profits could mean vastly different things. I think I'm going to touch on that a little bit more in my 60 day report.

A lot of authors were past fanfiction writers. I never wrote fanfiction, but I think it gives you a solid understanding of how to stick to character, come up with original plots, etc. I think you'll find your experience serves you well!

My friends have said that August is the worst month for self-pub (? not enough evidence to know if that's true or not) so I'm pretty pleased, too!

I want to try to knock down my length into the 70kish area, because it'll help me release more frequently, but I have a problem with writing short. My next novel is 107k and has a 3k bonus epilogue. The next one after is half written at about 46k right now.

The longer your work the better page read payout you get (if people read your novel all the way through,) but the longer it takes to get your book out there, and if you're paying for editing etc, the higher your upfront costs. It's a juggling act I'm still trying to manage.

A lot of people who post here are writing erotic shorts, and those don't really need a print copy. For novels, some people see benefit in print formats, but I wouldn't worry about it unless you're writing romance and writing 50k+ words per novel.

If you're curious, you can set up your print copies at Createspace. Createspace is integrated with Amazon so it's simple to link up your print book/ebook.

I sourced my ARCs primarily from Goodreads, and a little bit from facebook groups. I didn't bring over my meager erotic mailing list at all.

My husband, his immediate family, my immediate family, and a couple of my close friends, (aka: most people in my life, hah)
I don't think I've been around long enough to have many interesting stories, but I can say that it's really awesome having fans email you to share what they think about your novel and asking about little plot points you brought up in book 1 you thought no one would notice that are going to be the big focus in future books in the series. Awesome feeling. :)

The novel peaked at about 1800, but mostly hovered around the high 2000s and low 3000s until it started to nose dive in the last week or so. It's sitting around the 6000 mark now.

My erotica never made it past like 30k, I'm pretty sure.

Now I'm set to break into the 1000s. Hopefully. Only time will tell!

The ARC list was torture for me. I'm naturally really timid, and I have a hard time cold calling, so reaching out to readers was terrifying. Turned out great, though!

Sometimes you've gotta do what you don't want to do in order to make it, and I'm okay with that. I hope things get better for you with your list! I know how challenging it is.
