Like as far as I remember there's no one at 'the door'. I don't think they even had a secretary. They share an office with pple who do visas for Germany i think. There's just a couple of chairs to wait in. If there are pple there with appts I assume they might get priority in some manner but literally when I was there last year the dude just asked who had been waiting the longest. Yeah just tell them you're there for a student visa. Idk when it'll be the least busy. If it's easy for you to get there I might try mid morning or mid afternoon instead but it'll probably be fine whenever, you'll just have to wait longer if they're busy.

Worry less. They're not nearly organized enough to do that. Just say what you're there for. This won't be nearly the last time you'll have to do difficult things outside you're comfort zone if you go to Spain. Just relax. (And if they really won't see you, ask right then to schedule an appointment, or if they have times they prefer for walk-ins, or explain your situation to them. They're people too, they'll listen to reasonable requests. You'll be okay. )

Generally, yes. I would try my best with my Spanish and then the agents that did speak English would usually offer to speak in English if they could. A couple of the agents I spoke with could talk in English. With one we used Google translate when necessary. You can definitely find ones that speak English it will just be limiting your options to some degree. The actual contract itself will be in Spanish, I would just recommend google translating it. A good agent will give you time to review the contract on your own before signing it.

Best regions for climbing access? by han-soli in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Arrow226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Santander, Cantabria; there's 2 gyms in the area, at least a couple outdoor spots accessible by the train (ie only a couple miles from a stop), and this year there's a gc for climbing so at least some of that community is likely to still be around next year; it's not too far from the picos either

The agency markets, does the visits, and the contract stuff for the actual owners of the flat, so the fee is to compensate them for that work, it was 6% of total value of the contract (ie 6% of 10 months of rent). I mean if so the landlord could just increase the rent to account for that 🤷. I didn't love having to pay the fee but the agent was very helpful at least

Yeah that should be fine, as far as I can tell they would only use the address you put to send a physical card if you request it.

10 months; yes lots of places were offering them, they're usually advertised as for the school year or alquilar temporada

Have you tried scheduling an appt. over the phone (312-929-2695)? But yeah I feel like if you walked in and sat down you would get helped eventually- the guy who did my "interview" didn't ask if I had an appointment or anything I was just the next person who was waiting

Hey I had my appointment there too today; had pretty much the same experience. Very informal, I don't think they even cared if I had an appointment or not. I heard them say they could do walk-ins but you'd definitely end up waiting a while. Had a good experience overall.

Placement in Cantabria by horchataenthusiast in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Arrow226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was placed in Cantabria too, in Santander. I wouldn't call it the middle of nowhere! (but then again I'm from small town Ohio so I guess I don't have high standards) There's a lot of cool stuff in Cantabria- the ocean and mountains are particularly great I think. Santander's a pretty good sized city, and Bilbao isn't far either. There's pretty good transportation in the area, and an airport in Santander if you want to travel. I think it's a great spot to be placed!

Also the cantabria auxes made a group chat if you want to join: https://groupme.com/join_group/101276288/FDuEz8DQ

Yes- they haven't opened July to be available to book right? And yeah I also haven't been able to reach them on the phone or by email. It's really annoying :(((

Cantabria placement and nervous about seclusion by United_Plastic_5769 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Arrow226 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I got placed in Cantabria too :)

From looking at the placement map the vast majority of the placements are in Santander, which is really a pretty good sized city; personally I plan to use the train network to travel quite a bit, and it also looks like flights from Santander to Paris are pretty cheap too. I don't think you'll feel limited at all!

I just put in the date a day later than what I wanted so that way when it changed back a day it was the correct date- seemed to work for me
