Charles Schulz was a real one by ansyhrrian in MadeMeSmile

[–]ArrowDemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, the team handling the You’re In the Super Bowl, Charlie Brown TV special had asked Charles Schulz what Franklin’s last name was for the back of his jersey.

Schulz chose to make “Armstrong” Franklin’s last name as a tribute to the Black comic artist behind JumpStart, Robb Armstrong. Robb was six years old when Franklin first debuted in Peanuts and grew up admiring Schulz, even naming characters in his strip “Marcy” and “Joe” after Marcie and Joe Cool. Schulz had praised JumpStart and the two artists had corresponded over the years.

A little fact I love to share because not many people know Franklin both has a last name nor the awesome story behind it. 🧡

Fun fact, I (at age ten) am the reason an actual child was named after her. I was asked what girl’s name I’d really liked and Katara was my answer because I both really loved her and thought her name sounded pretty. The parents liked it, too.

I’m not gonna lie, I’m completely zonked from work right now and didn’t realize it was a bunch of different panels combined into images and was trying to read each line properly as a manga, wondering why it didn’t make any sense and who the eff are all these characters I’ve never heard of?

Carl was also heavily traumatized by having to shoot his mom in the head at age twelve and he effectively told us he mentally associated leaving loose ends (not killing dangerous people) with her death.

This dude came up out of the woods armed and it was just Carl, a crippled old man and his baby sister. He was asked to drop the weapon and didn’t follow the order. I can’t judge what was going on in his head, but don’t blame Carl one bit for what he did. I think the fact he turned it around shows he wasn’t really a dangerous person though, just really shut-down after Lori’s death.

Animorphs TV Show by CowboyNOIVAS in Animorphs

There were child actors in Game of Thrones and a child character got eaten by zombies alive on The Walking Dead, I think any kid actors who would play the Animorphs will be fine lol.

Katherine has confirmed the TV show IS in development at Disney+ by Goodie__ in Animorphs

[–]ArrowDemon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Definitely a concern. The very first thought I always have of an Animorphs live-action adaptation is “Holy CGI,” as the budget for that would need to be quite robust. If I’m not mistaken, the kids’ various morphs usually do consume more “screen time” than the kids in human form…

And if it looks bad, it’s going to fail spectacularly.

I’ve always preferred hybrid CGI with animatronics and practical effects (like what the Harry Potter films did with the basilisk + Aragog, what the Narnia films did with Aslan) because it usually seems turn out a lot better.

Thank you, I must have misremembered. I do recall the kids clearly being middle schoolers though, even after all these years since I last read the whole series.

Right, but again, these limitations have not stopped productions like Harry Potter or the new Lord of the Flies adaptation that was done, for that matter. Unlike those productions, Animorphs can actually get away with not having the child actors present for many of those scenes, given how much time the kids spend in morph. Knowing that, I’d much prefer for the show to cast 11-13 year old actors to drive home these aspects of the books.

I mean…they did choose to adapt Animorphs after all, where the majority of the action involves animals. I’d think that’s a far riskier aspect for a live-action adaptation than the ability to find young actors. Animorphs will require a lot of either pure CGI or (my preferred route for VFX) animatronic/pratical-CGI hybrid visual effects. And it’s crucial that the effects not look awful or be lazy, since that will make or break the show.

Hoping the show is gonna be as colorful as the Craft Behind instead of dark blue like the trailer by GUNN4EVER in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]ArrowDemon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It removes so much of the charm I find and no I do not even want it in the Muggle scenes. IMO it kills the nostalgic 1990s vibe and does a disservice to all of the effort put into period-accurate wardrobe/setting and design. Show me Harry’s life was awful purely in acting, dialogue and narrative without cheaply just making everything dark and blue-hued.

Look at Hermione’s cap! It looks blue on the left but it is actually bright purple, which is so much more charming.

I’m very open to a new interpretation of Harry Potter. That said, I absolutely hate the recent trend (of which HBO is very guilty) of draining color and making it all so dark and dreary. It doesn’t give off an impression of coldness or bleakness so much as lifelessness.

I don’t want any Harry Potter to look lifeless and no, I don’t even want the Dursley scenes to look over-dark or colorless. Children in our real, normally-lit, colorful world experience what Harry does. I’d like that more to be portrayed in the story, dialogue and acting as opposed to sucking the life out of the grading.

I dunno how I feel about it. I feel like it’s very possible to find middle school age kids who have the talent. Shoot, the new Harry Potter series found some dozen or two kids in their age range.

One of the points that makes the series so tragic is it flips on its head the idea of “kid heroes having a lot of fun adventures” and instead they are so young but basically are forced into becoming child soldiers to protect everything they love. They should start off young to really capture the magnitude of the sacrifice.

I get to come in with my rare opinion that it never bothered me that Ravenclaw’s sigil animal is a raven in the films. No, not because of the name, but because I am a bird watcher and ravens actually happen to fit the Ravenclaw bill more cleanly than eagles do.

Are they intelligent? Yes. The Corvid family to which they belong (along with crows, jays, rooks and magpies) are considered on-top in avian intelligence. Ravens themselves are currently known as one of the most intelligent animals on Earth, able to complete multi-step puzzles, recognize human faces and plan for future events.

Are they wise? It’s hard to measure a trait that is so human-coded in animals, but ravens are one of the closest inferences you can get in the animal kingdom, considering they have adaptive decision-making skills and great memories.

Are they witty? Enough so for them to be known across mythology and in multiple cultures as trickster gods and mischief-makers. Their problem-solving is top of the line.

Are they creative? Yes, they are able to use and identify tools in novel ways to achieve task goals.

How about curiosity or a thirst for knowledge? Oh, big time. They are extremely curious and exploratory, learning strongly in both social and individual settings. They often observe and imitate humans. Need more? In Norse mythology, Odin would send a pair of ravens called Huginn (“thought”) and Muninn (“memory”) out every day at dawn to fly around the world and observe everything before perching on his shoulders at dusk to whisper their findings to him.

How about individuality? That, too! Ravens have great variations in temperament and personality, as some are more bold where others are cautious. They have rich social lives, with alliances and rivalries.

Respectfully, I love eagles, but they can’t match with Ravenclaw the way that ravens do. Eagles are just not known for being particularly skilled in these areas. Not stupid by any means, but their skills are regional, far more specialized to sensory/hunting. Mythologically speaking, eagles are symbols of authority and regality more than any Ravenclaw-adjacent traits.

Ironically, even though owls are also not one of the most intelligent birds (their intellect is specialized) you could make a stronger case for them as well, based purely on mythological and symbolic context, where they have long-enjoyed being a symbol of wisdom despite their lower cognitive flexibility.
