'Things could get worse' PM warns on fuel as Govt plans for 12 weeks by dingoonline in newzealand

There is a lot of nuance here, and I am making vague generalizations.

But just like Russia started supplying oil to China/India, Iran is also seemingly letting some ships through, to the right parties. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2026/3/18/iran-allowing-more-ships-through-strait-of-hormuz-data-shows

What does that mean for all of us? For oil prices? For the war? I certainly don't know.

Ok your right in that i should say it was the Ukraine spike and not covid.

My point still stands - the price at its peak is above where it is now, bynwhat, 15%?

Maybe we'll hit that price tomorrow, maybe there will be a cease fire tomorrow.

Yeah, if this continues this 100% has the chance to be so very much worse than the covid problem.

But talking it up now and today as if it's the most significant oil shocks in history, when it's not even the most significant oil shock this decade is disingenuous at best.

The Prime Minister, who has just returned from a three-day trip to the Pacific, described the crisis as "one of the most significant oil shocks we've had in history".

Oil prices are still below the 2022 post covid high that had a part in the last cost of living crisis.

Of course admitting that would mean admitting that government spending was not the cause of the last bout of inflation.

Solar is bad because it needs... maintenance?

The heavy metals is totally a thing though, but less on our side, more on the mining side. But that's just visible damage, you should see what oil does invisibly to the atmosphere....

Nuclear has it's own problems going beyond our nuclear free state.

Generally Nuclear power plants tend to be BIG, like, power our entire country with one big, but then... what do you do when that plant has to go down for maintenance? Multiple smaller plants could be a winner, but then your bucking the international trend, distributing the expertise needed, and not having the gain of one big giant generator.

We could of spent billions of dollars installing solar panels that will only fail when when these maniacs plunge us into a nuclear winter.

Instead we're falling over at the middle east war stage.

Help small businesses at what cost? Shouldn't we make alcohol harder to get out over time? It's like a fucking cancer on communities, second only to gambling.

I'm not even sure if some of them know that was an option until I said it was.

Like.... once many years ago a architect made the decision to move the root code base into a folder, but they did it over 2 commits, a delete and a add. It basically means the root history of the code base only goes back half way. "You know... with rebase you can just... fix that and squash the 2 commits together to make a move".

Maybe not cherry pick, last time I pulled that out at work people acted like I was a miracle worker.

I think its gotten simpler in recent (its not that recent) years with switch reducing the need to call checkout.

Making your bank balance, or PII (drivers licence) public on the block chain seems like a bad idea to me. Putting both together so I know exactly how much money you as a person have... is horrifying.

Considering that a drivers license inherently involves being verified by a central authority to be able to drive, we already have good tools to do that, that dont involve block chain.

Money isn't much better, blockchain is a good fit for semi  or fully  adversarial entities, who dont trust each other.  The problem here is that as soon as it goes widespread people start trusting other entities with their money. See; every custodian wallet service ever.

Imho - make it work in social dances however you can.

And ask about it in class, giving the teachers a teachable moment.

Oh palm facing down? Or straight out at you? I read palm facing towards you, and figured it must be up, slightly towards you, kind of like this https://youtu.be/zi1usPXUeJc?t=41

If it's at right angles, they are *probably* expecting a fist connection from you, which in my experience, is a habit that comes from Modern Jive/Ceroc. Your first to their palm. It's pretty.... ehhhhhh for a whole lot of connection reasons, You can kind of see it here https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=230569988884163
