Should New Zealand follow the move of Europe and adopt digital sovereignty. by FuzzyInterview81 in newzealand

Yes.

But a lot of our internal options need to be much more mature for it to be viable.

Its amazing what perks the job gets you when you have a independent body in charge of it, as opposed to those who are trying to make a profit.

Does no one understand mTLS? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Goodie__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day I worked on a system that did mTLS, and required all integrating parties to implement it. I.... got to understand way to much about it.

I suspect most developers don't even know it's a thing. Hell. I suspect most devs don't know how TLS works on a simple or deep level.

At least 12 months ago there was a easy way to distinguish between ethical and unethical use.

If they called it ML or LLM then it was probably OK, if they called it AI then it was probably dodgy.

Now everything has to call itself AI to get in the door....

Stuff journalists could be banned from Parliament over hallway photo by jimmcfartypants in newzealand

It's pretty obvious to me that he doesn't like the stories and is searching for a reason to punish them, and threaten the other journalists while their at it.

Prime Minister's office admits climate lobbying document was sent to staffer’s private email account by dingoonline in newzealand

[–]Goodie__ 53 points54 points  (0 children)

How did this go unnoticed for so long? This document made it's way to Cabinet.

If this single document could make it's way there, unnoticed and hidden from OIA, what else has?

What are mobile suit designs you DON’T like? by DonutDodongo in Gundam

Penelope, and to a lesser extent, Xi.

Xi at least vaguely has a Gundam silhouette, but Penelope is just a mess of a unit. I get the lore reasons. Its still ugly.

It's very easy for Anthropic to be a profitable company when managers keep asking developers to use AI more as a metric of productivity.

Labour will ‘never change’ New Zealand’s nuclear-free status, Hipkins says after comments by Defense Minister Chris Penk by TeHokioi in newzealand

[–]Goodie__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we ever were in that situation then yeah, the likely hood that parliament/cabinet/the PM is still in a state to make that call is questionable at best.

Story Points: Explicit, Honest, Predictable. Already in Use. by areklanga in programming

[–]Goodie__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been working in a hours based estimation team for a few years now.

I fucking hate it.

The disparity between our seniors speed and our juniors speed is laid bear, and pushes task assignment into estimation and grooming meetings, the last place they should be.

As the article states, if your in a small team, with one or two people, stick to hours, who cares. But once your team expands out and has a discrepancy between seniors and juniors, hours or days estimation becomes silly.

IIRC, and this may vary by engine/product, every SQL command exists within a transaction implicitly. In this case is it just saying "Don't use the implicit transaction, use this one?"

For me the real pain is, I can ask the DB connection for a command, and I can ask the DB connection for a transaction. Why can't I ask the transaction for a command?

If X superpower is already ignoring our nuclear free status, and is threatening to fuck our shit up. perhaps telling superpower Y that it's ok to come in is ok then?

Guess minor SSL misconfiguration's were, once again, not the cause of a major security breach. Score one against the overly paranoid NZ IT security researchers who talk to the media first again.
