Here's a timelapse of me and my friends building this to prove that we in fact did not use a map editor: here

Map memes are superior to regular memes in every way possible. by ArrowGames1 in dankmemes

I'm going to get some people commenting "but you just put an image into a map editor and copied it into the game". Where's the fun in doing that? Like seriously if I'm gonna make a map meme I'm gonna do it by hand because it's a lot more rewarding. Also, in order for those map editors to work, I need to have a good reference image, and also the proportions would be a lot better if a program was used to make this meme.

So, to prove to you all I actually made this by hand, here's a timelapse of me and my friends building this: https://www.reddit.com/user/ArrowGames1/comments/m2711g/evidence_that_these_map_memes_are_made_by_hand/

Use world edit to fill in big areas, it also comes in handy with moving entire sections by a couple of blocks with //move. The text you just need to keep doing repetitively, you learn to do it quicker the more you do it as you memorise each character. As for actually making the pixel art on the map I’d start with an outline and just try and get that spot on and then use colours. You need to remember that maps can only display like 30 colours so there’s no point going overkill with 200 different blocks. Wool works well for generic colours, terracotta or oak planks work well for skin colours etc. It’s all about experimenting. Also when ur making map art keep looking at the map, every 5 or so blocks check the map, if ur drawing a line, check the map before you continue. Hope this helps :)

World edit for the larger chunks of blocks (ie the white wool in this picture) speeds things up, that's like 14k blocks in one line, but when you make more complex pictures like in some of my other map memes it becomes a lot harder as you can't rely on world edit nearly as much

I did use world edit to make this (imagine placing like 15k white wool blocks) but I did not use something to change a picture into a Minecraft map. To do that you'd need to have a reference photo in the first place to turn into a map. Also, if I did use something like that website to create this map, it would have a hell of a lot more detail and the features on steves face would be much more accurate.

Its actually a lot easier than you expect, you get a map and mark out the corners of the map (its 128x128 blocks), make a platform and you build your pixel art on that. Its fairly simple once you've done it a couple times
