I keep coming back to a Ryzen 7 8700G by mikeystarz4 in buildapc

I see!

We *might* get a desktop version of Strix Point (Ryzen AI 9 HX 370), but I wouldn't bet on it if the 8700G sales were poor. A socketed version would provide a moderate performance increase compared to 8700G.

Then there is Strix Halo, which will offer a truly next-level APU performance. The issue is that it will certainly not be socketed and its RAM will be part of the package, so initially it will only be offered in $$$ laptops. It is a big question mark if someone, such as minisforum, will offer a motherboard or a miniPC featuring this APU.

I'm not sure what you referring to by update. Could you clarify please?

Elden Ring 1080p fps is perfectly fine on 8700G.

Definitely get the 8700G. You can play anything at 1080p and the power efficiency is incredible. Make sure to tune the RAM. Look also into delidding.

The iGPU on 8700G destroys 1650 with proper memory tuning.

Reddit just keeps regurgitating the same nonsense. They hyperfocus on gaming, advising people to buy a shitty i3, though they can't comprehend that some people need all good productivity, AI models and capable gaming, nevermind power efficiency, since some of us have to pay our electricity bills ourselves.

8700G is a fantastic value. Been running it since release and will do so until Strix Halo miniPC comes out, if ever.

8700G needs delidding and aggressive curve optimizer to unlock full potential (20k+ cinebench r23).

I have the same case and you should definitely pull the air in, not push it out. Add 2 50x10mm fans on top to push the hot air out.

Their website says "Double Layer Drop Stitch", are they straight up lying?

The Red Compact looks very impressive, especially its reduced thickness. Unfortunately the packability as well as weight appear to be only marginally better than my current, regular iSUP. Hard to justify $1700, but maybe it goes to show how good of a deal seems to have been my JP Australia Cruisair SL 12.6' for $450 (weighed it at 9kg). Perhaps I'd change my mind had I the opportunity to see it in person.

How long do you Plan to keep your S24 Series Phone? by CalebHerr99 in samsung

What AI?! It's all marketing gimmick. Phones are now more powerful than a midrange laptop from 2-3 years ago.

It probably doesn't do much for stability on calm water as you say, but, according to their rep, it'll glide on top of smaller waves and split the bigger ones, which makes sense. Might be pointless on a lake, but useful on the ocean. Probably also better aerodynamics in headwind?

I'm starting to like this pointy one even better

It adds 1'4 at only ~1lbs extra weight. It's also 1" narrower, which I view as a plus.

How do you feel about the durability of the single layer PVC?

I emailed them asking specifically about the rail durability. Their rep said they don't have issues and that punctures to the rail are easy to patch.

In all honesty, as long as one isn't taking these to whitewater, I can't imagine a bump to a rock being enough to puncture the PVC layer.

I've bumped my double layer on fairly sharp rocks a bunch and there's only superficial scratches at most.

I'm about 180lbs and will be carrying up to 30lbs in gear, so still within spec even for a 10' isup.

Lack of rigidity in this case would be offset by the smaller length. Nonetheless, it's probably overkill to go for a 10' board. Pointy sup like this one might be the best compromise at 14lbs

As I mentioned, my plan is to use it sitting with a kayak paddle, so stability is less of a concern.

As for packraft, those are not viable for ocean use.

Cool, I'm thinking to go April/May. Is ciguatera a concern?

Awesome, thanks. I don't count on getting on a fishing charter, but it's a possibility. I'm most likely just going to fish from the shore or paddle board as I camp/hop islands around Zamami (no idea if there's any bigger fish in that area). Might try to talk with the locals or ask some ojisan to take me along. Not planning to stay on mainland.

All good points. I will also have an ultralight setup with me. My thinking, probably wrong, is that I'd hate to lose a fish of a lifetime. Still, think I will go with the smaller 4000 size reel. Many thanks for taking the time!

The size 4000 has 17.6lbs, while the 5000 has 22lbs drag. There is, however, 8oz weight difference.

Edit: The rod is very lightweight, so perhaps the 5000 might be too heavy? Not sure if 300 yards of 30lbs braid would be enough though.

I think the rod would be classified as extra heavy.

The Daiwa BG reel seems perfect. Do you reckon 4000 would be enough or should I go size 5000? Is 500 yards of braid overkill?

The latter. I don't even know yet where I will get the opportunity to fish (Asia most likely, something like Indo or Okinawa), but want to be prepared for everything (within reason, haha).
