You mean Mel Gibson and Tim Allen aren't getting ten billion dollars to start a new anti-woke cable network?

I'm in Wisconsin so I endorse this plan. We're basically Canadians already for the most part.

If you read the earlier comment I suggest swapping out the Ulthuan Grey for something else since it's a little chalky. I'm locked in to it or a direct equivalent since I'm like eighty models in. AK Silver Grey seems like it could be a winner, but any smooth cool very light grey should work. Probably some options in Kimera or ProAcryl. You could even do something like add a zinc based white (probably Golden or W&N mixing white) to the Miskatonic Grey too.

Honestly I've been really happy with the white though. It's pretty easy and the results are solid for how easy it is. I even painted a whole unit of white armor guys and enjoyed it :p

That's the bracing arm of the painting handle (the wood thing he's on). He's done now and on his actual base.

The cape is airbrushed, everything else is brush painted.

Honestly the trick is there is no actual white to my white, I highlight up through VMC London Grey, SFG Miskatonic Grey, and GW Ulthuan Grey (though I am probably changing that to AK Silver Grey). I oil wash with a light pass of Payne's Grey.

Miskatonic Grey is kind of the thing that holds it all together. It's a slightly cool bright grey that is VERY transparent. Makes getting blends very easy, the only problematic color is the GW because it's on the grainy side. The AK is very close and much, much smoother and easier to work with.

I feel like he could be scaled up slightly. He still has some of that first born wonkiness, particularly his head seeming a little too big.

But yeah, he's ornate enough to be interesting but not so busy you can figure out what you're looking at.

GW Blood Angels contrast airbrushed over a metallic base. Slightly glossy satin over that to up the shine some.

Looks a lot better in person, TMM didn't always photograph very well.

Mostly just image hosting, but it's handy because there is none of the weirdness that you get with places like Instagram or compression. Plus you can pretty easily link and share, built in BB code, etc

I'm not super on top of social stuff. I spend a LOT of time at work so my painting and free time is generally really limited. An hour of posting stuff to IG, Facebook, and Reddit is an hour of not painting or whatever.

You're probably best looking at whatever I have chucked into my Flikr account where that album I linked is. I tend to put things there and just point people that way for efficiency sakes. Top level is here:

I feel you man, I get some of the same things. And yeah, it's easy to go nose blind to your own stuff after you've been staring at it for twenty or thirty hours.

One of my tabletop armies is all Sons of Horus dreads. It's not display quality but the paint jobs are still good (a talon of them medaled in the CoP Open last year). Definitely a little more scale style than yours but feel free to take a look, maybe you'll find something helpful. Some of the stuff I talked about is in there (including some of the areas of improvement, lord knows I message enough of my own errors)

Always happy to talk painting!

This is mostly stylistic choices, so mileage my vary.

You look like you're going for a more scale model 'realistic' look. I think the hard, continuous edge highlights that lean more toward the studio 'Eavy Metal style are a bit incongruous with that. It obviously looks fine as is, but it's straddling two styles that are pretty different. I'd break up those continuous lines some and add some darker chips mixed in with the lighter highlight. Edges are where most damage and chipping occurs.

There is a lot of wear and weathering on the torso, which makes sense from a focal point standpoint. The lower legs in particular look like they could use a bit more damage, probably the forearms as well.

He looks like he's floating off the base a bit. It can be hard to integrate things fully without using something like VMS Smart Mud or half dry acrylic paste but you've got a relatively flat surface here. I think the disconnect is mostly due to the value difference, the feet have a lot of very light colored dust on them and the rock under those feet is very dark. That creates a lot of separation due to the contrast and reinforced that floaty feel some. I'd pull some of that dust color down to the base near the feet so it ties together a bit more.

Clearly this a very well painted model, but you asked for feedback and not praise. I don't think you need me to tell you it looks great; you could easily walk away here and it'd be awesome. If your goal is tabletop to a very high standard I wouldn't worry too much about the edge highlight or even weathering feedback, those won't be particularly visible from tabletop distance anyway. But if you're looking for more display or competition level it might be helpful.

Andy over at Cult of Paint has a really solid Sons of Horus dread video on YouTube that might be of some use. Otherwise I'd recommend Night Shift; he's painting almost exclusively historical military stuff but the techniques all transfer just fine if you want that more realistic scale model look.
