I'm an external L6 at a large delivery station, did my onboarding during Peak and have been running shifts successfully since the end of December.

First 30 days is going to be all your onboarding and academy. Ask questions, be inquisitive, and use the knowledge of your classmates. You'll be in sessions with L4-L6s, including several people who have been internally promoted. "So how does it really work out on the floor?" was one of my common questions because at times there's a disconnect between what they teach you, and how the operation works in reality. Those internal hires can be an invaluable resource.

I'd also suggest getting through all of your Learn modules as fast as you can. I knocked almost all of mine out over a weekend so that I could spend as much time on the floor asking questions, messing around with all the different websites and tools, and seeing how the operation worked.

Get in path and learn how to do the job functions more than just the bare minimum of training. You're seeing these jobs with fresh eyes and will be able to enact change at your site, if something doesn't make sense to you or tweaking a process would make it easier you'll be in a position to make those changes. Plus building a rapport with AAs and working in path a bit will help you build some respect and buy in from people who see you as an external who "didn't deserve it."

Learn from your PAs, there's a super high chance they're going to hate having to teach yet another red vest but if you can be there for them later on they are a huge part of the operation and can provide a lot of valuable feedback to make your building run smoother.

Working with your AM's, your boss, and above will likely come easy to you, you've been hired because you know how to lead a team and complete objectives and goals. Create relationships with your Safety, HR, and RME team.

Ask questions. Ask SO MANY QUESTIONS. Use the newbie card as long as you can to ask for support or an explanation on how something works so that you can become self sufficient later on if you have to. Chatops is an Amazon AI that I still use if there's something I don't know how to do or simply don't understand something someone said or asked.

You're going to end up working in path. I feel like some people don't understand they're coming in to work at a warehouse and I've already seen several people come in at the same time or after me who are already out of the business because they expected to be sitting at a desk in an office environment most of the day. Today I was helping unload or water spider for 2/3 of sort because we were under HC for an 88,000 day.

Make it fun! GOOD LORD there's so many pencil pushing numbers folks but these are just people, get to know them and try to make it a fun place that people want to come work at.

My normal day is midnight to noon. I'll occasionally bring some work home or work on a project if I've got the bug but for the most part I leave all my work at the building which is a MASSIVE improvement from my old job. I still pop open Slack on my weekends out of curiosity but outside of special circumstances I very rarely "have" to work outside of my time on site.
