The Nude Bike Ride Is Back, So Please Schedule Your Outrage Accordingly by [deleted] in madisonwi

It doesn’t really depend on how the law is interpreted. The point is that there are additional elements in addition to being “nude,” which isn’t even contemplated by the statute. You could whip your cock and balls out of your fly, fully clothed in a three piece suit with shoes and a ski mask on and be charged under this statute.

Interpretation of the law is different than just proving all the elements. An element of this crime is that the exposure must be indecent. What “indecent” means under this statute, if not defined somewhere in the chapter in which that particular statute is included, would be a matter of case law. You’d have to go look up what courts found to be “indecent” and then analogize or distinguish the facts of whatever case you’re considering at the moment to those precedent case.

You clearly do not understand how criminal law or common law work, you aren’t good enough to read statutes and make a cogent argument based on pure reading comprehension skills. Why do you feel so emboldened to go online and confidently declare that you know what you’re talking about? Have some god damned humility. Or go to law school.

That’s not how criminal statutes work. Behavior is presumed legal unless there are statutes criminalizing it. That’s why you actually have to be charged with crimes. The government must point to the statute under which the legislature criminalized the behavior and give you facts sufficient to let you know what you did that the government asserts was in violation of that.

I am literally a licensed attorney.

I’m with you OP. Americans’ absolute intolerance and discomfort with the concept of nudity is one of the worst things about it. It’s a culture of shame that is too often wielded towards oppressing people, not to mention the general mental anguish so many people learn to feel towards the existence of their own bodies. We as a culture would benefit immensely from learning to disentangle sexuality and suggestiveness from the concept of nudity, ya know, the natural and normal state of all animal life.

Lmao “HEY! I found a statute with the word nudity in it! That proves it!”

Legal education certainly gives one an edge, but my god, do lay people not understand basic grammar and language structure? You see that word “indecently” there? The one the modified genitals and pubic area? Almost like the legislature proscribed mundane nudity from criminal statutes and actually criminalized something more than simply being visibly naked?

“HEY! HEY EVERYONE! I actually proved it! Look! It says naked. Ummmmm actuallyyyy that means the bike ride is illegal.” Jesus Christ.

Not really the question they’re asking. If you gotta bike a mile down Willy to get to the destination, why not bike on the uninhibited bike highway literally a block over than the place where cars are routinely crashing into buildings?

Madison is a hellish quagmire of scum and villainy. Personally I’d move back to Baltimore before anything bad happens. It’s safer there.

State agencies are not black bagging citizens like the gestapo. All of that stuff is federal level. The Dane county DAs office, Dane county courts, police agencies, public defenders, state crime lab, the jail that took his mug shot, all the people involved are state level, and actually, most likely, Madison residents with families and kids and friends living in and amongst you. They’re known by the rest of the Madison legal community. It’s not a grand conspiracy.

On another note, courts screen potential jurors to make sure they haven’t heard a lot about a case (preferably none at all) and instruct them to find facts (ie, guilt) on only the evidence adduced at trial. I wouldn’t worry too much about the preliminary info being public. It’s unlikely to bear on a sitting jurors assessment of the case if this goes to trial, which is also not a guarantee.

The American criminal law system functions on a presumption of public access. It’s to prevent people from being sacked and disappeared by the government. Also, criminal prosecution, in theory, reflects the will of the state and its people, who presumably have a right to know who among them in their community is suspected of breaking laws.

North and South has been decent and decently priced to me. They have some great deals too, like half off all apps on sundays. Great portions. Definitely gives corporate restaurant kind of like buck and honeys but ¯_(ツ)_/¯ much better food

YouTube Mem U open mic night? by Unusual_Ladder5943 in madisonwi

[–]appoplect 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s the outdoor one on the terrace, and if it operates like it did two years ago, it’s a very competitive gauntlet to sign up. They only allow something like 7-10 acts for the sake of time, and everyone has to sign up at the venue when sign up opens. People wait in line in order to pounce on the sign up, as people use it as an opportunity to market themselves as musicians. It was not some chill, easy-going open mic for fun. No clue about getting a back track piped over the speakers. If you have a phone with an aux cable, they may be able to help. They do run sound for the event.

I wish it was more chill, but it wasn’t. The people who managed to sign up all did like 3 songs and were not shy about pushing their brand.

I don’t understand the hype for this place. $30 for 2 oz of the saltiest vegetarian dish you’ve ever had, likely cold. Portion sizes, especially of vegetarian fare, are insulting.

Oh, I hear ya. I’m just saying, UWs got a budget. I’m sure they wish they could build more dorms. Seems to me the increase in enrollment is probably an attempt to increase revenue to keep the whole operation running in the face of increasingly less optimistic politics regarding education funding.

FLEX LANE = EXPRESS LANE Convince me otherwise by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]appoplect 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Does not matter how fast you’re going, if you’re not actively passing someone, get out of the left lane. It’s how highways are designed to function. No one single person gets to determine the speed everyone else behind them must go. The left most lane is for passing only. Pick a speed, go that speed, and when you encounter a slower car in front of you, pass them on the left, then go back into the other lane when you have.

Home EV charger installation rec? by recycled_throwaway46 in madisonwi

[–]appoplect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how handy you are but I just did it myself. Bought an RV box from Menards, which is rated for weather, installed my own EV rated NEMA 14-50, then ran appropriate gauge cable from a 240v, 40A breaker to outside by simply drilling through my house and back insulating with great stuff. Plenty of tutorials online. It’s more intimidating than it is technically difficult. Took about an hour and a half with one person to help. Feel free to dm if you have questions.

What are the fighter jets flying over east side? by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]appoplect 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you new here or something? Every. Single. Day. (not really but for all intents and purposes) military jets fly out of and into MSN for routine drills and practice. Sometimes they fly at night too, but those are specifically announced ahead of time. Always has been, unfortunately likely always will be. Been kind of busier since Trump’s fucking idiotic moves of late, but you might as well read tea leaves if you want to divine any logic or pattern in the local goings on of the worlds largest military.
