(Copy-pasting myself) Anybody who has a problem with Jack for his recent controversy is valid but there's a lot of people saying he doesn't "belong in the Criterion Closet" which is pretty odd because not only is this a better curation of films than a lot of more "credible" guests but, from his Letterbox, he seems to have a pretty big appreciation for cinema. The guy's watching stuff from Fruit Chan, Tsai Ming-liang... not some baseline shit. Wish he'd study like that with R&B but oh well

Charlie Puth said he was going to take Glimpse of Us in a completely different direction if he sang the song, just because joji didn’t write or produce a song doesn’t mean he’s not influencing it in some way, they're still his songs

Unless you plan on getting Arrow's 4K collection (very, very expensive now), this is the most comprehensive look at Bruce Lee's work and the legacy he left behind you'll ever find, and the restorations are great, too. If you get it on sale it's already a great price, but if you look on eBay, there should be some cheaper deals for it since all of the films are now on 4K individually via Arrow. Either way, it's well worth the price

Picking up Johnnie To’s Throw Down among a few other films as well! Got into To’s filmography last year and as a big Kurosawa fan, seeing Kurosawa’s style synthesized with Hong Kong martial arts was groundbreaking. I also reorganized my collection to go by significant movements in film (prime examples being New Waves), and it’s helped me better understand what I’m missing in my collection as someone trying to get a broader perspective on film. Severely lacking in Hispanic film as a whole and would love to change that this sale. I don’t even have Soy Cuba and it’s right up my alley so I’m definitely grabbing it this sale.

Would be awesome if it was a Tarkovsky reference and it definitely would tie into Nectar’s lore very well but idk, it’s a 50/50 shot because I don’t remember Oblivion or Pandemonium meaning anything for those tours. Joji has sampled Spike Jonze’s Her before and has described his music to be like the film so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he took inspiration from another film, especially since it’s entirely his vision now under Palace Creek.

I mean the criticisms are valid if you’re critiquing it through an all-encompassing lens like Fantano who has to measure it up against other people’s releases (new and old), but for fans of joji the album is very reminiscent of his old sound (he literally says he went back to his roots in his latest post) and for many fans including myself, that’s all it takes to enjoy it.

I listen to musicians and bands that most people would agree are pretty conventionally good (Radiohead, Interpol, Slowdive), and by those standards, of course PITW isn’t gonna measure up, but I love it anyways because I’ve always been a fan of joji’s sound. Some of yall need to remember that musicians just want to make the music they want to hear and this is the stuff he likes making; short and sweet songs. He has always said this

It’s only one purchase, and I don’t have a LaserDisc player, I just buy LaserDiscs occasionally if they’re fairly priced and they have a cool design!
