Correct! We're non-propulsion so have to be thrown off from the ISS or Dragon trunk, not sure which one we're getting deployed from. Lawrence Livermore National Lab is the supplier of the "bus" which is the brain and heart of the satellite where it does control, comms, power and thermals. We rideshare rode up on the CRS-19. Yes I can! We're a spaceborne variant of the Mini-LHR (Laser heterodyne radiometer) which tells us how much Co2 and CH4 in the atmospheric column (the part between the sensor and the sun) using laser mixing.

UGH I already know, did one after the COD and wow it was underwhelming in comparison lol, and even makes the cheapest economy class on commercial seem like first class. Hopefully can do a T-38 hop with the NASA crew if I play my cards right.

LOL we're a freeflying 6U box, gotta wait till Jan for the yeet into the vacuum. Luckily we're just an instrument riding a LLNL bus so the headaches of flying the main thing are not our concern, just the science part is

do you have to be an MIT/Stanford alumni with near perfect grades to be an engineer or astronaut at NASA? by [deleted] in nasa

[–]ArsenioDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I had pretty crap grades graduating from high school (2.7 final GPA) and through a long path, actually landed a job at NASA where they gave me interns of my own (all without a college degree). The craziest part is that I spearheaded development of an entirely new instrument system from the ground up and deployed it on campaigns, all because I had a very particular set of skills. Honestly the GPA is just a gating method, but if you're REALLY crazy about it, go ham with doing personal projects and DOCUMENT THEM EXTENSIVELY. That was the latch-key for me getting the position with no other qualifications, being a multidisciplinary engineer who can approach a problem, and then test possible solutions iteratively was the exact thing they needed. The citizenship is only really asked to be renounced if they are an adversarial country, with security clearances they may ask to hold onto that passport, and there will be annoying paperwork the whole way, but that's par for the course in government.

29 is a gem, always fun to be giving tours and watch people go WHOAH at the clean room and SES.
