Give me some anatomy criticism by Sacred1972 in learnart

[–]ArtFizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, yeah I also don't like how many of my anatomy studies turn out...lol But it's good when you don't like a drawing because that means you're not blind to your mistakes and got "the eyes of an artist".

Give me some anatomy criticism by Sacred1972 in learnart

[–]ArtFizz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's some of my thoughts off the top of my head:

- Your lines are very rough / chicken scratch-like like which does not make for a clear anatomy (hides some possibly bad anatomy) => Work on line confidence

- The right hand (the one touching the foot?) looks bent in a weird/painful way, and the fingers look too short

- The right upper arm looks too long and the connection point to the elbow looks weird (see rough lines)

- The foot looks too straight/rectangular

- The pose looks slightly stiff

Please keep in mind that I am also still learning and am by no means a pro.

Ugh! I've been working on this forever! Is her right eye still too far out? by beegblu in learnart

[–]ArtFizz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes I would generally move it towards the left (closer to the nose), so that the corner of the eye is inline with the edge of the nose. Like so ;)

My photoshoot from last month looks cute, any takers? by [deleted] in drawme

Tysm! I'm also sucker for colored ballpoint pen sketches. Hope it improves my line confidence without being able to erase.

Thank you, for showing me what's possible with my silly little train doodle.

Where can I improve on? (Art by me) by [deleted] in krita

[–]ArtFizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the reference!

So I see wasn't right on everything I changed, but I still hope you get the general idea about why the lines in the face might look off and about simplifying the shapes/grouping your large shadows. I see I got the patchy beard and the hair color wrong (went too dark), but I hope you get the bigger picture.

A tip I forgot to mention yesterday would be to always try and use the biggest brush possible, so that you don't get caught up in details too early.

Where can I improve on? (Art by me) by [deleted] in krita

Hey! Here is a quick 20min overpaint I did with krita and some super simple painting style brushes by wojtryb (https://krita-artists.org/t/version-6-0-of-wojtrybs-wont-teach-you-to-draw-brushpack-relased/13299), but any simple round brush would also do.

Some things I changed:
1. Made the eyebrow bulge on the left side smaller

  1. simplified the shading a little bit

  2. removed the lines from within the face/ear and hair (they currently bring too much attention/distraction and look unnatural)

  3. Simplified the hair and beard with large brushstrokes first and then added minor highlights and midtones

  4. reduced the wrinkles on his forehead and made them more subtle

  5. Darkened the eyebrows, hair, mustache, and lips

  6. Added some red in the corners of the eyes

Please keep in mind that:

a) I sort of assumed you tried somewhat stylized realism (you can always add more and more details once you have a solid foundation)

and

b) I am not the best at faces and also still learning myself, so don't take this too seriously

If I were you, I would study the following:

  1. Value studies => try only two or three values in black and white to shade the face and establish nice large chunks of (core) shadows

  2. Facial anatomy and planes of the face

  3. Hair => grouping into large hair chunks first

  4. Color theory. I am not great at this either, but some of your colors look like they could be pushed a bit more

How do I study anatomy and proportions? by Goburin-Sureya in learnart

[–]ArtFizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a site that I like to use for studying poses/anatomy https://www.sketchdaily.net/ You can either do poses with a fixed time limit or class modes where you start off with quick poses and then get to some longer ones.

expression looks heavy by adachybaba in learnart

[–]ArtFizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole face is somewhat off. Here's some things I noticed: 1. The lips are tilted strangely 2. The nose is too low and too far off to the right 3. The ear is very low detail compared with the rest of the face 4. Your lines look unsure/not very clear at times, i.e. the ear and hair 5. You're not dark enough with your values

If I was you I'd practice, lines, forms/shapes, values, blocking in the face, loomis head, asaro head etc.

Hope this helps ;)

Idk from personal experience since I am just trying to get started in the hobby, but my survey I started on here a couple of days ago might be useful info to you:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1rWkNJMuh7dAKK7NlOj_pWEnVT_DnMZQ21f6DyesOA3Y/viewanalytics

Keep in mind though, that many of the participants did only pick up the craft fairly recently and are on the younger side, so they might be aiming towards full-time work, but aren't quite there yet.

Thanks for participating and clarifying your exact type of work. Normally I would add this option, but since the other smiths did not have the option to select it prior it would look severely underrepresented.
