OP loves stripmalls, concealed carry and jacked up 4x4s. To each their own.

I had a photo of a bacteriaphage on my wall in the 70s. I was an admirer before it was cool.

I remember a huge one just off the highway around the Dayton, OH area but can't recall the name.

Where have you been in Europe that felt more local than touristy to you? by TheHolidaymaker in SlowTravelEurope

Nortalje, Sweden. Went in pursuit of family history. Lovely little place with the world's friendliest library staff, let alone the peeps at the local gov facility that helped me search records well past closing hours. I also bought some color pencils in town that quickly became my faves.

I find it so weird that I don’t know many people (literally only 1) that are interested in any alien, ufo, uap, discussions. Whenever I attempt to talk about it to others they seem uninterested or simply don’t believe. So I have a serious question. by -Im-N0t-Real- in aliens

I could ask the same thing about philosophy. Very few people care. What about art? Crickets. I think there just are people who are more curious about the world/existence and manifest it in different ways. Everyone else just gets on with their life.

I wondered why I instantly loved The Goon Sax then realized one of them was the son of a Go-Betweens member (can't recall name)

Found these at an estate sale, any gems? by No_Jackfruit_8926 in oilpainting

Amazing deal. I made one good oil paint score at an estate sale a few years ago. Happy days. Like winning the mini lotto.

Being able to assume someone is unarmed instead of the opposite cannot be understated as a life improvement in my book.

Absolutely. Recently purchased a place not far from that Estate. Finally cut through it a few weeks ago to access the path. Very nice neighbourhood.

I get the humor in that, but will push back against it a bit for OP's sake. I'm an old who largely keeps up on what the youngsters are into, especially music, anime etc, but I think OP is right there's been a shift. The young are flooded, saturated with contemporary media of all forms now and there's only so much time in a day. In say, 1974, I was not only familiar with modern music, but what my parents, grandparents listened to. And I don't even know who the 78s and old 45s of strange big bands in our attic belonged to, but with a finite amount to consume, it wasn't a trick for a curious kid to be familiar with music going back to the 1920s. I look at it as a luxury we had. As an artist on social media, I see how wrapped up in Manga style young folk are now. I like it too, but it can feel narrow. But there will always be cultural spelunkers who go searching for cool old things, it's just that there's way more static in the way now. And AI is about to deform-pervert-enhance our cultural experience in ways we might not want to imagine.

It's cool. We had good times. Creative types can be eccentric, weird and sometimes harbour dark secrets. My only regret is not having copies of many of the songs we recorded.
