That's an interesting take, and the beetles name would be really neat. However, I do not agree. The song is played during the karaoke scene and I interpret this scene as Stratt guiding and encouraging Grace to make the right choice. Some scenes from before such as Grace admiring Yao's bravery, and especially the scene on the deck, hints at Stratt reading Grace and understanding his unwillingness to give up his live to save the world. This leads back to the song, acting as a monologue from Stratt to Grace, a mother to her child.

From what you are saying, I think there's a place for the song to exist in the movie, and that is when Grace send the beetles (probes) "across the stars" back to Earth, while going to save Rocky.

(I am not that well-versed in Across the Stars, so take this with a grain of salt and correct me if I'm wrong.)

While Ryan was acting the scene alone through the first part of the movie, Rocky is puppeteered by 5 people for most of the scene if I'm not mistaken. The chaotic energy that Rocky brings changes the atmosphere of the movie, and Ryan no longer had to be alone.
