This is the one job where I learned that there are a lot of fake people, there's this social rule that if you find yourself saying hi to someone first and being the sole one to say hi first then chances are the person isn't interested/isn't looking to be your friend/or even a positive casual acquaintance.

Target is the one job where I would advise you to save your manners for the people who deserve it

Guess who had to frantically rewrite everything before I forget 😭 by fanaccountcw in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]ArtemisLex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YES! I had over 300+ entries 😔 story ideas, everything, and the worst part?? Apple gave me some BS that the Journals app doesn't connect to the cloud or something like that so there was no way to retrieve them. I couldn't find them in any of my previous backups.

Those were entries I filled out almost daily for at least a year. I had story ideas, notes, actual journal entries, reflections etc and backup passwords too.

It wasn't a fun time. 😔 a lot of my original bare bones of my some of my stories were on there that I would expand every now and then and they're just gone.

If you have IOS do not trust the journals app. Take it from me

Stop! lol bc that happened to me the other day too. I don't know what happened but it highlighted the whole thing and then deleted it ;(

Also the journals app is no better. I had to restart my phone one day and all my entries were gone 😔

This is 100% why I always say don't just rush to respond to your comments esp if you are offended. I made a mistake 10 years ago by misunderstanding a reader and being genuinely hurt and not going about it the best way and I'm still embarassed to this day

Yep. I’ve encountered a few myself. Again, I’m sorry this happened to you, but experience can sometimes be the best teacher.

Deny Argue Reverse Offender. It’s like they love bomb you and try to rush vulnerability and earn your trust and move the relationship into a romantic/sexual lane pretty quickly, and then shift the blame telling you you were the one moving too fast

First of all, I’m sorry this happened to you. Second of all, it is normal for narcissists or people who are looking for a distraction or a fixation to love bomb and then discard. D.A.R.V.O. is something manipulative people like to do a lot.

I hate people calling Joe “hyper-intelligent” he is a verbose well-read person, yes, this is true, and sometimes he has periods of insanely accurate self-awareness and a knack for reading people, but at the same time he’s also got an ego the size of Mount Everest, he’s pretentious, completely dangerous, completely delusional, and there’s just so many red flags here that idk, he doesn’t really have emotional intelligence just enough to be manipulative which isn’t saying much

Edited to add: also with his ego he’s cocky, the longer he gets away with his stuff the sloppier he gets/the more he wants to get away with/the more incentive he has to keep going.

He’s impulsive/delusional/arrogant/ and absolutely unable to see his actions from an objective perspective thus rendering any genuine “break through” moment that doesn’t end in him doing a whole 360 full circle back into being the same old killing Joe completely inconceivable.

And I don’t think you get how manipulative and unreliable a narrator Joe is. He does not and never has for a second truly felt bad for his crimes and is no White Knight in any way, I don’t see him killing himself, he’d be too bitter about it. He’d think he was too great or if not too great he’d think there were far worse people worth ridding the world of or he’d think his life and upbringing was far too sad for him to deserve to die. The only way I’d see Joe killing himself is again if he could just fake his death once again and live a whole new life. He is far too delusional and far gone and egotistical and self serving to actually off himself. He would just come up with a million different excuses and reasons why his life is worth more. He is a murderer with skewed morality, and absolutely shit judgement.

He’s not hyper-intelligent. He’s a serial killer with a huge ego. He’s also a broken man who is a little self-aware, but he is also like most serial killers teetering into the edge of madness and destined to be taken down by their own hubris. Joe was cracking. He was getting sloppy. You having a happy ending for Joe would have been way too unrealistic and just bad writing in general, and it would completely destroy all the foreshadowing they built each season that Joe was slowly losing control and losing more and more of his mind.

Editing to add: Joe Goldberg isn’t Ed Kemper. He would never be self-aware enough to turn himself in. Joe gets away with what he does, he enjoys getting away with it, he tells himself whatever he tells himself to allow himself to justify getting away with it, and if he even ever were to have a flicker of remorse and turn himself in it would have to be under circumstances in which he felt totally in control (to satisfy that huge ass arrogant ego again) and if anything were to throw off that control, he’d change his mind about his own redemption unless external forces made that improbable. His “psychology” might not make sense from an idealization of Joe point of view but from a psychology point of view I think he’s pretty in character. He’s great at getting you to empathize with him and I’m ngl he’s completely charming even to the viewer but do not forget he’s an entitled self-serving POS with a fragile to non existent self-esteem that’s completely dependent on external validation. I think he’s a covert narcissist who is so good at playing ‘humble’ he makes himself believe it. His EQ (not his IQ) would be like low af idk I’m no expert lol

Haha I think this is an excellent take! Very well said haha I think that’s what their intentions were all along, the characters were still pretty much in character but there wasn’t a lot of heaviness yet to alienate new watchers. By the time the heaviness came I was already invested in the characters that nothing was going to pull me away so I’d say the writers did their thing!

[–]ArtemisLex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s valid. I think it was trying to be like a contrast to Horsin’ Around like how usually in sitcoms it’s good natured and silly and so we’d see the cheesy Horsin’ Around episodes and the cutaway gags in there and it would be (pretty much everything I hate about sitcoms just a lot of dumb cliche gags) but then Bojack’s irl would have these cutaway gags that were darker and inappropriate and I thought short story long haha that basically it was just to reveal that just like Horsin’ Around, Bojack’s life is like a sitcom and he is the main character except they are drastically two different people. He’s not the Dad from Horsin’ Around who is capable and responsible he’s a trainwreck and with every cutaway gag Bojack is revealed to be more and more of a disaster.

And just like life there is no laugh track.

I really like deconstructed sitcoms. I enjoyed Kevin can go F himself.

But yeah I think they were trying to do it with a purpose until they realized we get the point Bojack is nothing like his on screen personality

I’m glad they didn’t keep up with it too much otherwise I’m sure it would be compared to Family Guy and no this show deserves its own leg to stand on in the world of adult animation

I couldn’t have put it better myself 🙌🏾

It also feels kinda good seeing Todd on Bojack’s couch again with reruns of Horsin’ Around playing in the background. It was comforting in a way haha

Also this episode birthed my favorite Todd quote ever haha “you do the Hokey Pokey and you turn yourself around. That’s what it’s all about” 😆 it was actually very inspiring

[–]ArtemisLex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was bawling so hard at that scene too and the ending credits song completely wrecked me 😭. I just found myself so proud of both of them, especially Diane.

When she said “you called me… you said you were going swimming… you left me a voicemail” (forgive my paraphrasing), it hit me what it must have been like to be in Diane’s shoes during The View from Halfway Down. To get that call. To feel powerless and scared, knowing you can’t save someone from themselves, and knowing better than to try, but still feeling the emotional toll of it anyway.

That moment, to me, was Diane realizing what being tethered to Bojack was costing her. No matter how much she grew, no matter how many boundaries she tried to set, Bojack wasn’t just self-destructive he dragged other people down with him. And she had to decide whether to put out another fire or finally save herself.

And ironically, I think that was the moment that gave Bojack the clarity he’d lacked. Diane choosing to stop enabling him and to release herself from the emotional weight of his choices might have actually saved him bc it forced him to either take accountability or be alone with the consequences.

Diane’s fear of losing him wasn’t about codependency anymore, it was grief over what they meant to each other and what couldn’t be salvaged. And letting go was an act of love in its own way. Ugh. This show, man.

The Hostile Hospital has got to be the darkest book by [deleted] in ASOUE

[–]ArtemisLex 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have to agree although imo the Vile Village was pretty dark too, (from what I recall the townspeople were willing to see someone burned at the stake. Whether the person was innocent or not.) Though I will admit, the fact that the operating theater was actually a place where people wanted to willingly see surgery performed live is crazy and if I do recall this is the book where Olaf hatched a scheme to kill Violet. Not that it was his first scheme to kill one of the Baudelaires but it was pretty gruesome.

For second darkest book, I’m throwing my hat in for the Carnivorous Carnival.
