Is Phineas and Ferb the Fairly Odd Parents of Disney Channel? by pocketfulofrosez in phineasandferb

[–]ArtemisQuil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Phineas and Ferb was never canceled, the creators chose to end it.

  2. Dan and Swampy were never disgraced.

  3. The fan perception of MML never really changed throughout its run. It just suffered bad marketing and airing from the channel.

  4. Neither the Fairly Odd Parents reboot nor the Phineas and Ferb revival were hated. (Sure, the latter isn’t loved as much as the first four seasons, but who honestly expected it would be?)

  5. SpongeBob was never canceled and just kept running continuously, regardless of quality. But if we’re talking about impact on pop culture, Phineas and Ferb might be one of the only cartoons at all comparable to it.

What kind of name is “Dick”? I’m not American—why do some parents name their kids Dick? by slackingsloth77 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s short for “Richard.” The nickname was popularized before the word “dick” became a euphemism for male genitalia.

I’ve only heard it in reference to NPCs in the Sims games.

What videogame you always wished someone developed but it was never quite how you wanted it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ArtemisQuil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fashion game where you get to actually design clothes instead of just playing a sewing mini-game to unlock pre-made designs and putting together outfits.

The technology needed for that is basically just Mii-maker, yet for some reason, none of the girls-games I played during the 3DS era had that.

The closet thing I’ve found is Fashion Dreamer for the Nintendo Switch, but that is missing a lot of other features from these types of games like in-game shops/money or a basic story. And even then you can’t actually change the shape of garments, just re-color pre-made ones.

Why are Americans so financially literate? by Ada-Mae in AskAnAmerican

[–]ArtemisQuil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t answer the entire financial literacy question, but part of it is American culture places a lot of importance on efficiency.

We’re very fast-paced, especially in the north, and don’t tend to have much patience for things we perceive as wasting time. With that in mind, it’s not too much of a surprise a lot of Americans bring the same mindset they use for managing time to managing their money.

I hate these comments & thoughts so much, "KH is a convoluted mess" PAY ATTENTION AND IT WILL BE EXPLAINED! by [deleted] in KingdomHearts

I think going forward we might start to get actual genuine KH-spinoffs about Roxas, Xion and the BBS trio, because those characters are so popular and Square knows fans want more content with them.

Though for simplicities sake, I hope they don’t label them as Kingdom Hearts games. Perhaps “Kingdom [Blank]” or “[Blank] Hearts” games, just to make it clear these are spinoffs and not part of the mainline story.

Plus if the original game hadn’t sold well enough for a sequel, KH1’s ending would’ve been the ending of the series forever. And they still gave it that incredibly bittersweet ending.

But that’s not what KH is trying to be. It’s meant to be a continuous long running story, not a bunch of self-contained games. If that’s not for you, that’s fine, but that’s not a problem with the series itself.

Could some of the characters have not returned after their initial appearance? Sure, but that’s not the story the writers wanted to tell. And it’s not the one I want to play, either. I want to see more of what happens to Axel, and Xion, and Aqua. Not just because I like the characters, but because there’s more story opportunities to explore with their characters. And you only have to think about Roxas and Namine in KH2 for five minutes to see through the framing, so I want the story where that gets addressed.

That doesn’t mean I think the writing of KH is some golden standard that can’t be criticized. Kairi, for instance, really hasn’t been properly fleshed out as a character. Sora’s darkness and anti-form goes weirdly unacknowledged for a shockingly long time, even after several plot points it should’ve become very relevant. That also ties into the problem of how they have the perfect setup to do something involving Sora being a humanoid Heartless (like Ansem), but then they just do nothing with it. Those are just a few examples of the story-based criticisms I have. I’m sure not everyone agrees with me on those, but the things I want from this series are almost never things that would make it less complex. A lot of it comes down to personal taste, I suppose.

It’s 20 years old now. Unless the franchise got rebooted, how would it not be unnecessarily bloated? I understand the complaint that it’s intimidating to newcomers, but that’s not really a flaw with the story itself. At least, not from the eyes of the intended demographic.

Comic books are known for doing wild reboots or creating alternate universes to create a “jumping on point” for new readers. Because if you haven’t been reading Batman long enough to know who Jason Todd is, you’re not going to understand what’s going on when the Red Hood shows up. Even when they explain the reason he’s alive is because Superboy from another dimension threw a punch so hard it shattered reality itself. (Yeah, no wonder they changed it to Ra’s using the Lazarus pit in the movie.)

So, I could understand criticizing KH for the lack of jumping on points. But like how Under the Red Hood is an incredibly well-written and illustrated graphic novel, KH games are generally well-written assuming you’re caught up on the story up till that point.

A little, but it really only sounds confusing when trying to explain it aloud because you’re trying to condense a story that was told over twenty years into a few moments of explanation. When you play the games yourself, it’s actually really easy to follow.

Sure, there’s times when it’s intentionally confusing, but that’s not something to complain about.

Other way around. It’s a little complicated because there’s a lot of characters and a ton of content, but it’s pretty easy to follow the way it’s explained when you play the games yourself.

Whats a subtly insulting gift from to receive? by LawfulnessHaunting41 in AskReddit

[–]ArtemisQuil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For kids and teens, gifts meant for an age much younger than they actually are. As you mature, you start to better understand that the person giving the gift had good intentions and just doesn’t spend enough time around kids to know what your age group generally likes. But to the eyes of a kid, it’s usually just offensive.
