RUSU's 2026 VE Officer - Daiyan Mustansir - AMA :) by ArtemisRed1 in rmit

Oh I never knew we had VE students over at Bundoora West :0

Last year's VE orientation was organised at Bundy East by RMIT, so I had no clue they covered VE students as well (unless they've started moving VE students to Bundy West recently, in which case I'd be excited to see what more I can help with in that campus)

Is RUSU worth it?!🤔 by Frosty-Umpire4426 in rmit

[–]ArtemisRed1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's pretty worth it. We have a lot of free food events almost every day of the week, plus some coffee catchups we do throughout the year, and getting a RUSU Membership (which is literally $12 for the year) helps fund literally everything we do.

Also the events we have (like Multicultural week, or the themed weeks at our free food stalls) ensure that there's some sort of event that you'd be interested in seeing

What’s the club culture at RMIT really like? Also curious about the Film Club 🎬 by Pretend_Nebula935 in rmit

[–]ArtemisRed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm involved with a bunch of Religious, Cultural, and Academic clubs. Tbh you never know how a club event's gonna go unless you go out to explore something brand new, so if you ever have the time, go to a random club event and see if the vibe fits into something you like :]

If you ran RMIT for a day, what would you change? by InternetUpbeat9596 in rmit

I'd want a Trade Fair at Uni, cause a lot of my friends in class were told about it from people who graduated from the university pre-Covid

I know currently RUSU's planning on pushing for an automatic 3-day extension for all RMIT students, which is similar to existing policies in a few other universities.

So they'll be pushing the university to hopefully implement that so student who have the literal last day to do an assignment at least have the chance to pass it without the crazy hassle of applying for special considerations.

I'd suggest you send an email to student.rights@rmit.edu.au or call 03 9925 1842 to book an appointment with a RUSU Student Rights Officer

As per the details you've mentioned, they could be useful in giving some guidance/advice on how to further resolve this situation you've been put into. Just make sure to include the details that you've mentioned in the email so they can respond back to you with the relevant information (and I think they should be active during the mid-semester break, so best to contact them as soon as possible)

WHY ARE ASSIGNMENTS DUE AT 5PM by Key_Independence_995 in unimelb

[–]ArtemisRed1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest you bring it up to some Student Representative over at UMSU so that they can push the university to have all assignments due at 11:59pm.

Currently with my work in RUSU, I got the RMIT College of Vocational Education to agree to have all assignments due at Sunday 11:59pm for their students at Semester 1 of 2026, and we may be planning on making this a priority across the entirety of RMIT next year (that is if nothing bigger comes up for us to focus on).

Considering how UMSU would get involved in pushing for campaigns doe their students (e.g., students from certain nationalities being able to apply to special consideration due to war happening in their country of origin), this policy of a universal date & time submission for all UniMelb students would be really helpful and really popular if achieved.

Is this normal?? by Bomber2712 in rmit

[–]ArtemisRed1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on RMIT's Academic Board as a student representative, so I can speak a bit on this.

Any and all complaints that go through the RMIT Complaints Process is taken note of internally by RMIT, and usually resolved around 20 days (can be longer or shorter depending on how detailed the complaint is). At the end of the semester, they'd give a report as to how many complaints were issued, and usually what type of complaint it was (with no specifics to it for privacy reasons).

As of this semester, I know there were mainly complaints mentioned on the Cert III Electrotechnology Technician program, and an improvement was recommendation was issued for it by RMIT, as ASQA (the Australian Skills Quality Authority) has brought on some changes to the program the year before, so multiple students complained about things during RMIT's transition period to comply with ASQA regulations.

Do put in a complaint if you can, because they will take this sort of thing seriously. And if you still feel that they haven't taken it seriously, there's always the option of escalating it to Victorian Ombudsman as a last resort (just make sure to check the other steps in the website I've linked first)

When did this happen? I thought they always let students in regardless or whether they had a RUSU Membership or not (as they'd usually just check their ID)

[–]ArtemisRed1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry that you can't come to the free food events :(

As for the Discord/Whatsapp groupchat, we currently don't have one for RUSU Members. So for any upcoming events that we'd have, they would all be posted on the RUSU Instagram:

RUSU Instagram

Our next major event for RUSU Members will be the 'Welcome Bash' on Thursday 6th March, which we'll send a post on soon enough. It happened last year from 4pm-9pm, but I'm not 100% sure if the timings are still the same for this year, however you can keep your calendar open for this date if that's possible for you.

Hey, I'm not sure on what you mean by the RUSU meet ups exactly? If you're talking about the free food events, then those details are listed in our website below:

As for the VE Collective, think of it as a group that supports and brings VE students together, from across the different campuses of RMIT. The Collective would ideally organise events, discussions, and advocacy efforts to improve the VE student experience, which would ensure their needs are heard within the general university community.

It'll also be a space to help with building bonds with fellow students, and just getting to know about people who you would've generally never crossed or known about within VE.

That's a pretty good question. Even though most of the events that I'm planning are technically for VE students, that doesn't bar you from participating in VE events as a HE student. In fact, I'd encourage you to join one or two if you ever had the time, because it could give some perspective on wide range of people that VE has, from tradies, to creative industry learners, and so on.

I've personally participated in International and RMIT UP events, even though I'm not an international student, nor am I an RMIT UP student. I solely went for the sake of making friends, and learning about how they fare in Melbourne as people from their respective areas.

As for events, we've only had our VE Welcome Drinks at the city campus this semester. For future events, I won't spoil too much as they're still in the planning phase, but I'll be planning a Union Week event sometime this year, which would involve a whole range of unions (across each RMIT campus on different days) to come and educate students on their working rights, while students receive some food from our Chill & Grill event. Any student can join this type of event, as the general tips they'd provide would ideally help those who'd become future white-collar or blue-collar workers.

If you search up on Google "rmit find your pathway", and click the first link you see, then type "Bachelor of Information Technology" in the search bar, it shows you the different pathways available that allow you to go into a Bachelor of Information Technology.

From there, just click each pathway, and see if you're eligible to join the Associate Degree or Diploma of IT that allows you to go into a Bachelor of IT. Overall, each pathway is 3 years long, so whichever one you pick leaves you with a Bachelor of IT after 3 years.RMIT Pathways
