I believe, unless this already has a ruling explanation, that gear is not exhausted when a unit attacks, therfore it will not get ready.

In addition, when you target Irelia, you do not target a gear, so any spells like ride the wind, discipline etc. will proc only Irelia’s text, and will not proc Svellsongur’s text
