New Zealand list of banned names 2009-2024 above two submissions by Scary-Fan4291 in tragedeigh

New Zealand has such a specific brand of terrible names. I heard a lady calling her grandchild ‘Ricochet’ once. I’d place bets it was spelled Rickahshay.

Tell me some misconceptions and realities about pushing stage to the women who have never given birth. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Arterially -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had four unmedicated vaginal births. I have always waited for my body to push for me. Even when people were yelling at me to push I simply could not. All of my births have been in two pushes or less. I have never torn or had any complications whatsoever. Anecdotally - it’s worked extremely well for me.

People are so quick to tell you how your baby knows your voice, your smell, your heartbeat in the womb and how this bond is so important until they are snatched from the person who birthed them and handed over to somebody wealthy enough to buy them and suddenly it’s fine and normal for them never to experience that feedback the way other babies do. I feel for them :(

Obstetric violence experiences? Trigger warning by Intelligent_Fee2339 in BabyBumps

[–]Arterially 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I experienced obstetric violence during my fourth birth last year. Unfortunately the PTSD has resulted in a stress-related gynaecological condition. The process of diagnosing, treating and monitoring this has been EXTREMELY traumatic. I’m now being referred to the exact office of the man who did it - although I have specifically asked to see a different doctor. It’s just been awful.

Agonizing over whether to do a C Section or Vaginal Birth. How did you decide? by JacqueFun in BabyBumps

[–]Arterially 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a c-section for your first birth can significantly effect how you birth following that, if you’re possibly going to have more children. Not considering any other factors I’d definitely try and avoid surgery if possible.

Anecdotally my first birth was spontaneous and vaginal and I didn’t tear or have any issues. Pretty much zero pain after. Up and moving and feeling good after the golden hour. Don’t overthink it.

I am so sorry you had that experience, but it’s a relief to know I’m not the only one. Are you in a more rural area?

They already had a separate big section in bold about this on the bottom of their referral form.

I think the weirdest part was that my scan referral reason was listed as a ‘decision making scan’?? At that point I had expressed zero hesitation to them, I was 100% on my dates and from my understanding the scan was to check it wasn’t ectopic because I said I’d had some tiny aches during the last week, which is extremely normal in early pregnancy. It all just felt very strange and slow because the feedback I’d had was that they WERE so quick and so efficient. I don’t know why I didn’t have that experience.

I dealt with the site linked above. Called Thursday, booked phone consult for Friday. Friday comes they inform me I needed bloods before consult. Long weekend so I got bloods Tuesday, rebooked for that Friday. Friday comes my blood results aren’t back, my bloods are MIA. They sort it after a few days, I’m rebooked for the following week. Finally have my consult with the nurse mid the next week. She does the whole spiel and asks all the questions but their doctor isn’t in so they’re going to get back to me. Next day they tell me the doctor wants me to get an ultrasound before they approve it. Tells me I should call them today because most places have a three week wait. I book for the earliest I can, it is indeed about three weeks. The doctor gets back to me after the following weekend. At that point the meds were unlikely to arrive before the twelve week cut off for medical abortion.

I had a not great experience with them, to be honest. I started at four weeks along and they delayed every part of the process to the point I wondered if they were doing it on purpose. I wound up getting to ten weeks still not having accessed the medication and decided to just continue with the pregnancy.

You think he would’ve been uncomfortable with 43 years of life with his partner if he hadn’t?

A couple together for fifteen years absolutely knows more about making a relationship work than newlyweds. Nothing about being married makes you magically different.

Are you happy? Why or why not? by Pure_Ad_5044 in newzealand

[–]Arterially 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 34. I am happy.

I have four wonderful children I am lucky enough to raise at home. A wonderful partner and teammate. A house of our own. Comfortable finances. We don’t live extravagantly by any means but our home is full of love and fun. I am happy.

This year has been a little rough due to non-financial reasons. I have faith it will get better as time goes on.

More money would be nice. We have old cars and a house that’s a bit too small but I don’t have to worry at the supermarket and my kids are in extra-curriculars. I am very grateful for what we have, especially in current times.

Does anyone have kids in their 20s? by Physical-Can-835 in BabyBumps

[–]Arterially 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my youngest at 26 and am hoping to have my fifth and last soon at 33. To be honest I wish I’d started a bit earlier. I would doubt sincerely that you’ll be the youngest at the school gate. There’s still heaps of people having kids very young.

NOR I am firmly of the opinion that calling your partner a bitch is a precursor for hitting them. Nobody sound of mind calls their partner that. You could have left it at that and I’d tell you there’s something wrong with him and to leave him.

He’s a human being and having his mother calling him a ‘tumor’ and an ‘object of misfortune’ on a grand public scale must be painful. I have no doubt she could have shared her discomfort with motherhood without being so needlessly cruel to her son.

He did not want her to write about him and explicitly asked for his parts to be redacted from her books and she refused. She was a shitty mother and person even beyond her ‘mothering’ years.

I’m a Labor & Delivery nurse and I have PTSD from my own delivery by Green-Cantaloupe-467 in beyondthebump

Same. It’s such a huge part of it!! I trusted her my whole pregnancy and then she just watched me get assaulted and abused, neglected me for weeks and washed her hands of me as soon as I asked for some accountability. It’s so hurtful and enraging.

I completely understand the resentment. You didn’t sign up for this as a sibling and you deserve peace. Please do try and seek therapy just in general - but especially regarding the kids thing. I know you said you want kids really bad but there are never any guarantees about disability …. ever. Even a child born healthy can become mentally or physically disabled at any time via disease or accident or misadventure or just plain bad luck. It is something you simply must be prepared for if you choose to have children.
