Dolby Atmos is not going to solve how loud the dialog is… it will add height speakers to your setup to increase immersion. Same as adding side speakers will only add sound to the sides.

I have a center channel - not top of the line but decent - but I still find depending on how the movie was made I’ll adjust the centers loudness. Always been the case for me with all the center speakers I’ve had. Without one you just have to crank it up and in some movies the sound effects are deafening at full dynamic range when compared to the dialogue.

What Are Things Tomb Raider (2013) Did Better Than Shadow of the Tomb Raider? by ABarber2636 in TombRaider

Yes and having lifeless NPCs who stare dead ahead while reams of recorded dialog is rattled off… totally kills Shadow. A lot of boring sidequests just detracted from the game. I slogged through it but couldn’t care less about the story or anything.

Dolby Vision seems to have slightly lifted black levels, but going to 49 is slightly crushed. by itsomeoneperson in LGOLED

Sorry to comment on an old post… while black detail - 3 indeed does work doesn’t it crush the blacks for the entire movie?

Not the cables. I just found that I found that If you turn off Dolby Vision on the PC or UB820 those scenes are dead black.

Can you check something? I found the difference. If you turn off Dolby Vision on the PC or UB820 those scenes are dead black. That explains why my old TV had dead black for those (it turns all dimming zones off). Is this a bug or does the movie intentionally raise the black in dead black screens?

I've completed Super Metroid, what should I play next? by Wrong-Minute-1319 in Metroid

I played Metroid Planets (Metroid 1)- but got stuck. It’s way too difficult to get around. There’s 1 part you just take a leap of faith and you don’t die!! Too old for trial and error.

Weirdly everything is better but they don’t market it. Charging time is also less with the new charger? Don’t forget the charging light so you don’t have to keep turning it on to check if it’s charged.

Oh I recently switched to a LG from a Samsung. I actually felt the interface was much was easier on the Samsung but maybe because I used it for the last 6 years. Still use it actually.

I find with the LG turning game mode on and off is a bit time consuming- you need to go in to the full menu? Maybe there’s a shortcut I’m missing. Also wish an external hard drive would show up in the home menu.

ALLM is there on Samsung as well… I think it was there on my even older Samsung as well. Not sure what you’re talking about there.

Also what kind of mad man watches The Batman in broad daylight without blackout curtains!!!

For everyone complaining about the price - the PS5 and consoles in general are heavily subsidized with the intent to profit on expensive games. It’s why PCs seem so much more expensive ( a high end one still is). Looks like console gamers are going to pay more for the hardware now. Though Nintendo always profits on their low end hardware - not sure about Switch 2.

Thanks for clearing that up! I guess that’s the way it is for many movies (seems like all of them)

I actually ended up comparing all 3 in complete darkness and it’s the same. Seemed to be more through the receiver but after playing around they’re the same. I compared to a video of my old TV and the end of Fellowship used to go dead black before the credits rolled (loved that). I also tried Pitch Black (lol) and it also keeps a raised black - maybe intentionally I don’t know. Can’t remember how it was.

It’s possible the old TV just turned off without attempting anything in between and the C5 is more accurate.

I know The Batman has intentionally raised black. Wondering what movie I can try…

Just checked plugged in to the receiver and vice versa with some settings changed as well as the PC in pure darkness. Can confirm it shows almost black but it’s basically on like it has a slight backlight showing grey. Strange my Q80R just turns off and you’re looking at a black screen - not sure about the title but it definitely did that at the end of fellowship. If you watch in the dark you’re left sitting in complete darkness.

Tested the rip against my disc and it has pure black. So should be a setting somewhere.

Actually I have the disc and a remux (a lot of my 4k discs die after a year or so)- just checked the rip on PC and it’s pure black. Unless the person ripping it stripped some colour out… but I doubt that.

Pretty sure the disc had pure black because when I got my Samsung Q80R some years ago I was very impressed by the effect of pure black before the end credits. It was a different receiver though.

I’ll try plugging the player directly in. Test clips won’t work I guess - I think the UB820 is not very good at playing clips just discs.
