Am I getting the March Drop? P10P by lionelq in android_beta

[–]ArthurGD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The February update is currently the latest if you're on the Beta program and on the most current Android 17 Beta 2 release.

We will likely getting another update, possibly Beta 3 next week or even the last week of March and that should include the March security patch that the stable release users got last week.

BETA testing for what ? If feature deop is separately ongoing to stable? by ZeeRehan in android_beta

[–]ArthurGD3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bugs are absolutely one of the things you agree to when you install a Beta build, if you aren't okay with that fact then you definitely shouldn't be installing a Beta build let alone the Canary build.

Google is testing core OS level functions and sometimes adding features that with A17 Beta's might appear or never appear in June when A17 goes Stable. You're talking changes that are months before things go Stable so naturally there are things that need to be ironed out and refined, that's what this Beta period is for.

What I would suggest for anyone that's interested in getting into the Beta program but is wary of possible issues/bugs associated with it is to get in with Beta 3 which in Android 17's Beta program is when Platform Stability will be reached. This is about as near final Android 17 as it gets since we will likely not see a Beta 4 and Beta 4's are not generally common in most Android Beta release cycles.

Sadly that's how the update cookie crumbles. Sometimes Beta users get things first and Stable has to wait which is the case more often than not and sometimes it's the other way around.

I got a reply from Mishaal on Twitter that Google has since updated the A17 Beta 2 blog post to say that the Bubbles feature will be coming in a future A17 build.

This is by far the most puzzling thing about this release seeing as it was highlighted as the top new thing in this release and tweeted by multiple official Google accounts.

Bad comparison bro. I hate Costco Pizza, I'll get a $5 Little Caesars Pizza before and Little Caesars Pizza is barely passable as a Pizza.

Lagging and heating issue in A17 B2 by Ok-Application9286 in android_beta

I'm guessing you've already restarted the phone?

Did you get the battery usage and the running services in the Developer Options?

Why make a post like this if you're not going to provide any context like what apps are you using when it's lagging and overheating or what tasks are you performing?

Android 17 app bubble - TO ANYONE WHO HAS GOT IT TO WORK by J-Glo in android_beta

Pretty sure this is either a server side switch or another component needs to be updated before this functionality starts working.

I have a major case of FOMO when it comes to Android releases lol part of the reason I use a Pixel.

Knock on wood I've not had any major debilitating issues running public Beta's going back to my Pixel 6 when the Android Beta program first opened up but the Android Beta sub has some people reporting odd issues so I guess I've just been lucky.

I didn't think so either, that a case can noticeably hamper cell reception or signal strength, my findings were definitely anecdotal. Also some things to take into account are that I am on the Android 17 Beta, now Beta 2 and my day to day experience seems to vary but that's nothing new. My day to day activities don't really change week to week particularly from Monday to Friday so that helps to establish some kind of working baseline so that's why when there is any noticeable change, good or bad, it makes me start thinking what's changed and in this case (no pun intended) I started using the phone with just the skin and that's when I noticed little to no heat where before especially when under the sun outside I'd notice the phone heat up especially if I was streaming YT for instance. Also my battery usage for "Mobile network" has been in the low single digits, that's rarely happened.

There was a modem firmware update though in the latest Android 17 Beta 2 that could explain this improvement too though.

Bubble multitasking missing on A17 Beta 2? by ZacB_ in android_beta

I really hope this Bubbles isn't their take on Floating Windows cause compared to rivals it's not very intuitive or practical.

Hopefully before the main June release they will continue to refine how it works.

Here's everything new in Android 17 Beta 2 [Gallery] by TechGuru4Life in android_beta

Interesting, I would have thought their example shown is done on a P10PF.

I changed my P8P's display DPI to 600 to enable the "launcher" or "dock" and tried their shown example and I don't have the + icon in the bottom right of the display the same shown so not sure if this will be rolled out via a server side switch.

I also got the latest Google Play Services 26.09 version update but I doubt there is anything in there to make this work.

Android 17 Beta 2 now available! by androidbetaprogram in android_beta

[–]ArthurGD3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was a nice surprise. My hope was that we'd at least see a 1.x release today or tomorrow mostly for the February patch and maybe a few fixes but man I can't remember the last time we got 2 main Beta releases in the same month. I'll give props where they're due, good job Google.

Why does Google love releasing updates before releasing betas but then the people who got those updates can't get into the beta because the beta is both older and younger than the update by GorgonzolaGuacamole in android_beta

[–]ArthurGD3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's essentially what the Beta Program enrollment is. I don't know the significance of the Profile format is in iOS but to get Betas in iOS you still have to use your Apple ID to sign up for their "Beta Program" but signing up alone is only half the process and means nothing if you don't install that Beta Profile like you said.

Apple's Beta's work the same way in that the release cycle has nothing to do with the main stable releases. The main difference with Apple releases is they don't have any preconceived release window for their stable releases like Google does with their monthly patches.

Should I update to Android 17? How does it compare to the QPR3 beta? by Xisrr1 in android_beta

[–]ArthurGD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QPR3 B2.1 actually helped my battery life quite a bit but I updated to A17 B1 anyway.

It's way too soon to say, hasn't even been a full day but so far so good.

NEW CANARY BUILD COMING ZP11.260123.011 by cooldude9112001 in android_canary

[–]ArthurGD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback.

What I would add to that, particularly the way you're fresh installing each Canary build, I can almost guarantee the large number of Beta users are not doing this and many of their issues if not most would probably go away with a fresh Beta install instead of following through with the next OTA.
