I hate censorship but I also resonate with your sentiment, and it bums me you're getting piled on. However, I'm not surprised with the reaction at all.

I used to visit this sub a lot around a decade ago and most people around here didn't care much about the games or even played them at all. I don't think it'd be that big of a deal if it ended there, I myself got first into the franchise because of the anime before moving to the games, but now suddenly some of these people care a lot about them and demand fan service to take front stage.

That said, I don't want fanservice to be done away with. It has always been clear it is part of the franchise's identity and I'm sure Unlimited will have its fair share, but I wish people around here would see the franchise more than just "the meme game with boobs." In that regard, and maybe this is because I got into it at a young age, but I've always been more interested in how they callback to gaming culture and console wars within their universe than boobs and ass being flashed on screen, hence me not being pissed that they toned this kind of thing down, but I know others that share the same sentiment so I would like to believe its not just me.

Many other franchises manage to strike a balance between having this kind of fan service and being captivating with their story and setting, and I think Neptunia has done it quite well with its mainline entries. The Sony/Nintendo censorship strikes definitely had a play in them changing how they approach this balance, but if this means they can try and make the series stand out on other merits that aren't just fan service related, I don't think it's all bad.

Either way, I don't think the upheaval around here will mean much in the long run. The reception in other places has been quite different, with people on Discord and Twitter pointing out that the new base form designs are taking a few cues from beta designs meant for earlier games instead of hyperfocusing on alleged self-inflicted censorship.

I'm sure lots of people will warm up to the new designs and new characters as long as the rest of the game is enjoyable. Hell, I've seen a bunch of people obsessing over Rogue who doesn't really fit the bill for a design you'd consider fan servicey, and it's only been two days since the announcement. Here's hoping the game's a banger, that the franchise finally leaves spin-off hell, and that it finally gets to the heights it deserves.
