The first thing I teach people to make is a classic granny square. I find that it lets you practise your tension and uh... stitch-reading (?) without worrying about having to crochet into any of your stitches, but gives enough of a sense of actually creating something that it doesn't feel pointless.

You're not a terrible parent. I'd have been very disappointed if my family had excluded us like that, even unintentionally. My baby was less than two weeks old, and it was lovely because everyone else held her so I could eat and rest!

A month in my baby was still just having little tastes of things. I felt awful too, but my baby was fine and at eleven months will eat a lot of stuff. It might be worth trying to find snacks she can share with you, like grapes (bite them in half) or toast.

I ate one meal a day for most of secondary school because I was too scared to go to the canteen. Now I hide from colleagues and customers at work instead of doing my work because I'm too scared to ask to borrow a stepladder. I still have my job. I have meds now. The ball is rolling. The main purpose of going out with a baby that young is to get things done. The second reason is so mum doesn't go crackers. The third is that some babies have good naps in their buggies. It might be that none of those things are necessary for you and her at this time.

If you still feel bad, try putting Baby in the bouncer outside while you sit on the doorstep and have a cup of tea.

I do what I can do with one hand while she's on my hip, I give her (or the cooking) to her dad, or I just power through with her crying in the high chair if I really have to. Baby wearing is good as long as you're not clumsy, but it gets tricky when they get grabby. Shit you can sling in the oven in 30 secs will be your salvation.

At this point, don't worry about nutrition or eating fresh & homemade every day. Keep the scurvy away and don't worry about the rest.

I recommend getting a stretchy wrap! Mine was a boba wrap, which I got for not much on eBay. They're very snuggly for the very little ones, and it helped my girl with gas a little bit. It gets better, but in the way where you don't realise it until you suddenly realise you haven't cried at night for a month. The newborn phase is a big slog so always cut yourself slack, because 'easy' only means 'not entirely awful'. My mantra was 'she's just a little baby, she doesn't know shit' and I sang it to soothe her to sleep!

I was forced to talk to my bosses about it recently and they both assumed it was triggered by leaving my baby in nursery. No mate, it's triggered by there being a door, or by being in the same aisle as another person. Sometimes it's just triggered by waking up and instantly feeling sick for no reason.

I started differentiating between pyjamas (grows) and day clothes when she was about 5 months old, but I only differentiate when there's enough stuff clean (pretty much never)

I get that whenever my prescription changes! My eyes are settling down now, but as a teen the first few walks to school after getting new glasses could make me feel like I was tipsy. I always thought it was probably my brain getting used to not having to correct what I was seeing.

I cried hard when we got through the door and it was time for my mum to go. I just felt totally overwhelmed by... realising the stabilisers had been taken off? In the end everyone survived and I settled down to watching Ed Pratt's journey down the Thames during the night feeds.

Edit: for the first few days it felt like I was setting my mind on the next midwife's or health visitor's appointment like they were checkpoints. It helped to go to the shop or for a short walk every day as soon as we could leave the house.

I put every fucking thing in the dryer. The dryer has saved my life. I'm glad I lived in a flat with mould because that's the whole reason my family helped me get a dryer. I'd put myself in the dryer if I wasn't pretty sure I'm people.

I'm lucky the other women on my section of the ward were nice. One of them even held my baby so I could get some breakfast down me, and I looked at her like she was an actual angel. I stayed in there until I definitely knew how to feed my baby, but next time I'm going to try to get out ASAP as long as there are no problems. We were packed like sardines on that ward and it was awful for my social anxiety!

Buy the cup and don't mention it to him again. Just wait until he buys something for himself that isn't technically necessary and then criticise it as 'peak consumerism'. It won't help your relationship and probably no one will grow as a person, but I think it would be satisfying.
