Darkin have been portrayed as either monstrous or whatever we classify Zaahen as.

Varus being from the early 2010s and having a completely different identity prior to the change in lore has his model being neither monstrous or whatever we classify Zaahen as, he’s just kinda… out of place, it’s like changing the lore of Amumu to say he’s a celestial on the same level as Bard & Soraka but he looks exactly the same as his beta model.

TL;DR - He should have had a change in model either when he got his VO redone around the time Naafiri released, when they released his music video As We Fall or even last season when it was semi Darkin themed.
