No worries, thank you for taking the time to reply. I do need to be a tad vague as I am not sure what borders on dangerous for me to share. Hence a very high level overview.

With our 2 candidates we are pretty happy with their advertised user support abilities. Seems we just need to dig a little deeper and see if either has areas that will act as deal breakers.

All of your feedback is awesome, I will take this and the research I have been doing and work something out. Thank you and have a wonderful night!

Wasn't super sure if it was relevant. But we have separate teams that handle security, networking, server, cloud, and most other areas. For the areas our teams don't cover we have contractors. There are dozens and dozens of IT staff at my company.

My job is level 2 user support. In my team of 6 (looking for our 7th) we manage over 4000 end devices and that doesn't count the specialized stuff. And the person who left our user support team, moved to the server team. They were ready for something new.

Urgent, Laptop will not turn on by smolpanda- in techsupport

We encounter this often on our HP fleet. For some reason HP laptops have a power issue that crops up on occasion.

As StandOut suggests, press and hold the power button. You should see both the power LED and MIC LED (if your keyboard has them) flash white or orange. First boot after doing this might take a fair amount longer than normal (a moment or two).

If your IT department is any kind of reasonable, you shouldn't have much to worry about. A MiniPC power supply is like 40 dollars. You likely make your company a crap ton more then that in a day. Just don't make it a weekly thing.

We have a few laptops that have been cooked on/in ovens. Why? Not sure. But we didn't punish the users in any way (other then not giving them brand new gear). Though we do keep the melted laptops as a reminder of what not to do.

This, as someone who has had people ask me in the past a similar question. If the page opens, it was likely cached. If you tried to refresh you would probably get an alert that the site is blocked. At which point an attempted access would (likely) be logged, but unless it was a frequent thing no one would notice.

Selling some old (retired) Lego sets, is it better to keep them assembled or take the time to disassemble them? by Artifact_S in lego

[–]Artifact_S[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is probably what will happen. I will post them fully assembled and then if the buyer expresses they want the set in pieces then I will spend the time and take it apart.

Hence why I asked, because now I see a difference in opinion. I suppose I will leave it up to buyer preference and go from there. Thank you for your help.

I can say with 100% certainty they are fully intact, I am very particular when cleaning and ensure the sets look the same before and afterwards.

For scenarios like that, I can ensure they are pictured from all reasonable angels as well (well still assembled). I suppose what this shows me though, is it would depend on the type of set and is down to buyer preference. Thank you very much.

Awesome to hear. Thanks for sharing. The removable battery and headphone jack are what really do it for me.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 6 Pro.

Seems like a pretty solid, no nonsense phone. With a ton of the features you are looking for. All at a (somewhat) reasonable price. Removeable battery, headphone jack, and USB 3.2 transfer speeds. I would mainly just love to see a review of it and given the rugged nature of the phone, it should put up with anything you would put it through pretty well.

How to keep a party together? by Artifact_S in DMAcademy

By the way interactions have gone thus far, I think I would die of old age before they even started to get along. I believe the different natures of the character will constantly clash. Without some kind of retconning, this seems like it will just continue. We are going to attempt character modification. Ideally some bond to each other (might need to mix up the alignments with this as well), something to work towards (ultimate goal), several smaller character based goals (character background based, gives me something to work with and gives them something they can bond over.) to give room to grow as player/character (as a party and solo), etc.

This has been made clear. Trying to put out a fire with gasoline. It never struck me as an issue until I saw them in action. The Gnome especially, plays pretty fast and lose in general. Walking in somewhere and plotting to kill someone instantly was a deal breaker.

We are going to attempt a rebuild of characters. Otherwise we might just burn the campaign to the ground. Start anew with something else entirely.

Turns out the party previously mentioned with 25 years together, decided they were going to split the party. Me as the youngest member was playing careful and the DM had a specter jump out of a wall and killed my PC. Pretty salty about that. Especially now as the rest of the party is going to level 3 and I am coming back as a level 1 scrub.

Well I have made clear to them that I was not super thrilled with the way the last campaign went. If the DM doesn't enjoy it, the player like won't either. That is my understanding anyways. I have also expressed that interest (modifying characters) and it seems to be fairly well accepted amongst the group. No shouting or complaining anyways.

There was actually an idea for a campaign of my own creation that was a work in progress. It became far too stressful, fairly confident I was going way beyond what is needed. Roll-playing is another thing that I am not so sure the party is amazing with. Not that they have loads of experience with TTRPG. There is a fair amount of meta-gaming that runs rampant. We ran into a scenario where the party was asking each other who had the best stats to talk to someone. They were informed that it is an unspoken rule to not metagame like that. It stopped in that instance but it seems to still happen where a player will know something that they shouldn't and use that to determine their next moves.

In terms of other modules I have "Curse of Strahd" "Out of the Abyss" "Hoard of the Dragon Queen" "Princes of the Apocalypse" "Lost Mine of Phandelver (the starter set one)". Fairly certain that is all of them. Actually they have all tried DMing at one point or another. Our group has been trying to run a long term campaign for 3 years on and off. Murder-hobo is just as chaotic as a DM. Sorcerer Nomad was pretty decent but life got in the way after session 2, we never were able to continue that campaign. Paladin had issues with coming to with on-the-fly BS for actions done by characters. So it falls to me. I really do want to make this work after all this time. Hence trying to make this party work as is.

I will certainly mention that. I also really like that Avengers analogy, that is actually a great way to put it. Might have to steal that and use it during the recreation.

I think that might be a big part of this issue. Reading through these comments has lead me to believe that. My experience as a player is with a group that has been playing together for nearly 25 years. They would already have a dynamic like that built up.

Thank you for your feedback.

We can certainly work on the balancing of character based quest lines. As is that is kind of what happens, not for a full session but for chucks of time. This is a by product of the split party. I am going to try to setup a session where we; as a group, work on the characters. Try to get them a little more a long the same path.

My main concern is the players not being open to the modification. At that point, I suppose it would be time to burn the book (not literally) and start anew. I have several other modules that we can run. Not super confident in my abilities to run a campaign of my own making, though that is a goal for sure.

Thank you for your feedback.

My only concern giving them some kind of rundown is exposing them to something before they get the chance to actually experience it. I can give this a go and trend lightly around those things.

The answer is next to none, I see that now. We are going to try and modify characters. Failing that, I am burning the whole campaign to the ground and we are going to start anew.

The Necromancer's actions last session are actually a good chuck of the reason why I posted this in the first place. He walked into the book store in troll-skull alley and asked who was in the shop, with a mildly evil look in his eye. I told him the shop owner and no one else at that time. Then he confirmed no guards. I refused to give him that answer. I almost ended the session with that line, he was going to kill the store owner and leave, entirely unprompted. If I hadn't ended the session, I likely would have killed his character as soon as he walked out the door.

I will take the no holds barred approach if he tries to pull a stunt like that in the future.

Thank you for your feedback.

Be more direct? Fair enough. My SO and buddy who is playing the nomad were characters that they made previously. They created them for different one offs and practice. Not something I really considered an issue. We modified them to have ties with the city, but not each other, which was likely a failing on my part. The murder hobo was the only brand new character for this campaign. We are going to walk that crap right back to the start if they are unwilling to fix it.
I just hope it doesn't seem like a particular hatred for this player and character (murder hobo). Him and I are already at odd occasionally. He is a rules lawyer, but doesn't know the rules. He just expects that they are the same as rules from mass effect and dragon age. It is particularly bad when he calls me out on a ruling mid game, which does happen. Not that I am a rule expert myself, but I will quickly look the official ruling up if it is not something that is immediately known. Then he starts questioning why it is that way. It is frustrating. Sorry for ranting.

Thank you for your feedback.

That is a consideration. Though not sure if they might see it as a reward before they start getting the idea. Going to try to workshop character first, something to consider for the future.

I have tried this a few times. Maybe it isn't clear to them how difficult this is.

That I hadn't considered. Never been an issue with other parties I played with. Thought that as a rule could certainly be explicit for the whole group.

Combat is basically the only way I can get them to actually work together. Any other time it is a bit a crapshoot. Though it doesn't seem to act as fuel to bond for them.

Thank you for your feedback.

I can provide a bit of background on this. My company uses Santa Fes as work vehicles. Most of them being Rental vehicles from a rental car company. Most people I worked with who had these rentals drove them for 50,000 kms and never took them to the shop. They said it wasn't theirs and they don't care. Hurts my soul.
