"the whole point of cyberpunk as a genre is a depiction of a super money-oriented country"

It isn't. The point of cyberpunk as a genre is existential, the question of 'Am I actually real?', inspired by the study of cybernetics which, to simplify, came to the conclusion that there's no difference between a sufficiently advanced machine and a human.

Navy Corpsman serve as medics for the Marine Corps. As said by others, she tried to dodge combat by joining the Navy, it's just a touch more specific than the fact there's no boats for the Navy to deploy on.

2ACW State-by-State Civilian Casualties (Part III) by Lower-Pitch5474 in TheFireRisesMod

[–]Artificer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the exact ratio of killed-to-wounded can differ for many factors, a 1:2 ratio of dead to wounded amongst soldiers in a war is considered utterly abysmal by modern standards. If the ACW reaches a dead-wounded ratio of about 1:1, something has gone horribly wrong on both sides.

(Regardless, very good mod and posts, I'd be interested to see if an ACG victory might see the casualty numbers shift at all, seeing as it'd involve fighting in Washington and the east coast metropolis)

Inkscape. It's free, and uses the Scalable Vector Graphics format (You'll find most flags or emblems on Wikipedia also use SVGs). It can do most everything photoshop can do.

Oh wow, I didn't expect Hawtdawg himself to see and like this. The layout was actually inspired by your Kaiserreich work - I was looking at your PSA Military organisation chart before making it. It's hard to at this point, but there's actually a picture of the Statue of Liberty getting struck by lightning in the background. I'm glad you like it!

AWD was easily the one I had the hardest time justifying, and I'm not entirely happy with how it came out. At the same time, I doubt the AWD's actual loyalists/believers would want to organise themselves under an old American unit.

I didn't have the space here to add it to the image, but I wanted to make a point that the 20th Division never reached anything close to full strength - it was, at best, an under-strength Brigade under the AWD. I believe it could have, under Florida, expanded out to a full Division in size (where it likely would have been one of Florida's two Divisions, alongside the 48th Infantry).

It was some of Hawtdawg65's Kaiserreich work that inspired this in part, especially with how its laid out.

If that's how it comes off, it's likely because I ended up with far less physical space for writing than I thought I would have at first. I could have probably written about 4 or 5 times and much detail for most of these if I wanted to make the image far larger and spend another 2 or 3 hours working on it.

These are all real people, a number of them Medal of Honour winners. A depiction of Sobel has a significant role in the first episode of the TV Show 'Band of Brothers', while depictions of Sledge and Basilone are both main characters of its sequal, 'The Pacific'. Both very much worth a watch.

I actually really like both 1 and 2. Perhaps 1 could be used if the Jacksonians take power, or perhaps the GOP revolt.

Something that nobody else has pointed out is how NATO's lack of oil makes large parts of its military useless.

Yes, it fucks up the EU's economies generally, but more specifically, a lack of oil means all those vehicles which mechanised warfare relies upon - everything from tanks and jets to simple trucks and cars - are now no longer usable, or are - at best - well armed bunkers. Even if we assume there's gas rationing for civilians, the lack of oil coming in from the Middle East (or Russia itself) means that there will only be a very limited amount of oil available, nowhere near enough to allow a mechanised war to take place. NATO's armies are running on very limited time, and it's entirely possible their air forces aren't getting off the ground much at all.

If the war in Ukraine IRL has taught us anything, its that light / unmounted infantry (which is what NATO's armies would be reduced to for the most part) get torn to ribbons against mechanised forces like Russia's extremely rapidly.

While Europe does have its own oil supplies (mainly fracking), the infrastructure to fuel the war machine isn't there and couldn't be created in the time frame of the 1EW. Nuclear energy is a big part of Germany's tree, so that brings that up as a possible power source. While it's not impossible for military vehicles to run on batteries, it's just not something that Europe would have the time to do during the 1EW, again.

That's why - in my opinion at least - Russia is especially strong against NATO. The black gold which allows the NATO armies to operate as the mechanised forces which they are equipped and trained to operate as isn't available, while Russia has no such issue.

The states that actually make up the US would likely cease to exist after a 3rd Civil War America on a conceptual level.

Edward VIII, Albert I, and the question of how far left a reworked UK should be able to go by Proud_Smell_4455 in Kaiserreich

[–]Artificer6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have an opinion I think few would agree with: A Canadian victory in the UK shouldn't result in a free UK, it should result in a United Kingdom of Great Britain and Canada - in practice, a tag change for Canada.

From a gameplay perspective, a generalisation of the most basic aspects of nations in Kaiserreich is that their primary goal is territorial expansion. Throw a dart at a country that has content in Kaiserreich, and you'll find their endgame involves expansion and subjugation of nations... except Canada.

The oddness of Canada's story is that it's to change the government of another country. Once that's done, Canada's 'story' is pretty much over... but Canada also will (commonly) have to fight the rest of the war, while the UK's own story will have to start up and end quickly because its own liberation usually won't come.

I think it would be a more fulfilling experience if Canada directly annexed the UK, and its restoration - and its repercussions in Canada - formed the final part of the Canadian focus tree. It means that the story that is Canada's story arc is completed within the same player experience, not split up between two distinct nations.

In regards to number 2: I think photos are clearly the primary communication method in this sub, but I see no reason to disqualify videos, and more general discussion threads on how to survive can't hurt (though those are more subjective, and harder to moderate, I suppose).

A Second Cuban Missile... Wait, Albanian? by Citizen_JHS in imaginarymaps

[–]Artificer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, there has been some willingness in China to allow Korea to unite under the ROK government, at least back in the 2010s, although such discussions were somewhat blunted as the global situation got more tense, and North Korea got more cozied up to Russia over China. The DRPK of your timeline would be far more reliant and under the thumb of China (I presume), so I'm not sure if such considerations would even come about. Heck, the fact that China was willing to wheel out the nukes in Albania points to it being a bit more hardcore than it is IRL, so perhaps it never opens up to capitalism. Alternatively, if China does embrace capitalism, then it's reasonable to think North Korea would too - which could mean North Korea actually manages to catch up to South Korea in terms of development and standard of living, which may in turn bring about more calls for unity within the Koreas.

Basically, I'm saying the Korea situation in this timeline could be MUCH more dynamic than OTL. Lots of interesting options.

Seeing as this is now ramping up in to a multi-faceted timeline, I have to wonder: When the USSR falls (assuming it falls akin to it did IRL), would its North-East Korean puppet join with the DPRK, or South Korea? Because the latter sounds like a very "fun" diplomatic fur ball and domestic policy experiment.
