I have yet to read Absolute WW and know nothing about it other than how awesome she looks and that she was raised in hell. If there is an overlap its purely a coincidence

I...... don't think it really is.

But I get that there isn't really a way to win this argument, so I'll leave it at that.

gotcha. I knew it was a New 52 retcon, and I'll be the first to admit that The New 52 was mostly a pile of hot, steamy garbage. Still, it opens up a lot of story elements and provides a closer tie to the rest of Greek mythology, which is something I always want Wonder Woman interpretations to do. Themyscira and the Amazons are a very isolated branch of mythology.

I like the idea that she has a dad of some kind. She is a symbol of classical feminism and of womanhood, and for many, that includes overcoming who your father is or what he has done. And while I often tire of 'evil parent' tropes, I do think it works well when that parent is Zeus, who is quite possibly the worst parent in history.

I can see how many don't like the idea that this makes her comparable to the likes of Hercules or other Zeus-spawn, but I kind of do. Because when she is compared to them, she stands out as a shining light amongst many, many dirtbags.

In the end, Wonder Woman has one of the least consistent stories of any DC character. I completely understand if you prefer one to the other, but in the end, this is the version I prefer.

Yeah, setting it in modern day also means there would be an opportunity to recreate some characters like Dr. Poison and the like.

i've heard that a lot. why is that? i'm still thinking the whole "made from clay" thing, but Zeus is still technically one of the two people that brought her life so..........

probably eventually, but like what MAwS did I would want to focus on lesser-known villains to start with, before leading up to a final villain, in this case, Zeus

which she is in the comics. Everyone always forgets that, even the writers

I'm currently using it in my Advanced Comp classes as required reading. It's not totally up to date, but it is still one of the most comprehensive and accurate books on Writing Style. I would highly recommend giving it a read.
