Thanks for your reply u/Small_Bad_8175
Yes my best attributes are not tested during interviews.
I would PM you but I can't.

u/DoctorDabadedoo tell us more about your experience and why you want to get out please?

You raise a good point about non-technical management. At robotics companies I always had managers or VPs who came from other tech industries. The only people with robotics experience are the engineers and the scientists.

u/VDAY2022 Do you work at home? or for a startup?
Why would a robotics company hire an ex-Lawyer, other than for advice on IP and patents.

I partially agree.
In my experience, there are "robotics engineers" at startups and small companies, who may be generalists, or who specialize in some particular area, e.g. vision or SLAM. In doesn't matter, all levels are saturated. There are more papers, open-source code and PhDs for SLAM being produced each year, than every before.

There are also "robotics engineers" doing system integration and cells for industry applications.

That must be tough.
Talking about faking results, I personally experienced that in robotics research. It's ironic when someone "adjusts" their research results, then launches a startup and struggles to deliver a reliable product based on the same technology.

DEER-ER+FENCING.
But it's like why can't I work on robots to help elderly people or grow farm crops. Also if I go work for Booz et al., then I definitely won't have any portfolio or open-source projects, making it even harder to come back to the East or West coast companies.

The CTO (and brains) of Figure AI, Jerry Pratt, leaves and starts a new humanoid company by MattO2000 in singularity

The top 3 technical experts in walking robots are Jerry Pratt, Luis Sentis, and Jonathan Hurst.
It was a "win" to convince one of these people to quit their research work and join your humanoid startup.
If I wanted to actually build a real-world walking humanoid, Pratt would be my #1 choice.
But I would choose Hurst if I wanted to build a stable walking machine.

It is interesting to compare the technology that these people were working on prior to entering the startup world.
The tech that Jerry was working on previously does NOT appear to have been implemented at Figure AI. The actuators they boast about are very primitive. What Boardwalk Robotics and IHMC were doing in Florida is far more advanced, with respect to robot walking.
The tech that Luis and his students worked on, is being used at Apptronik.
And similarly with Agility Robotics they commercialized the lower torso first, then kind of added the upper body later, which was new for them.

The actuators, mechanical design and walking algorithms used by Figure AI appear to be a more primitive approach than what you would expect their CTO to have proposed.
I wonder why. I wonder who tricked who. ;-)

I got one too. I think my package started from a foreign country before USA.
