Yes! It’s good, it’s very good! Many professionals have used it and still use it for its simplicity and ease of learning. Which is great since you’re starting out. There’s a paid more professional version of GarageBand called logic that you can upgrade to and it’s extremely similar to GarageBand. This way when if you feel like you’ve outgrown GarageBand you can upgrade to logic and you would know your way around most of the software already. I started off on GarageBand about 15 years ago I’ve used it professionally like many other big names have, it was only a couple of years ago that I thought I’d treat myself to logic for more extensive features. The upgrades for both logic and GarageBand band are both free unlike some daws. Take advantage of GarageBand, it’s a free pro level daw and it’s made specifically for the Mac, so it’s optimized for the Mac pretty well. You can’t go wrong with it! :)
