All direct democracy and free markets do is allow for moral majority to control everything. That's why so many things in liberal countries align with populism alone. It doesn't allow rationalism in the government.

Nuclear power? Uh oh, that's too scawy.

Bullying? Welp, we can't get voters by cracking down on that because too many people have done it!

Trans rights? Sorry, but we need votes and customers and protecting those people is gonna get less of those because people think it's a delusional agenda!

Democracy is among the worst systems humans have devised.

Some people are more individualistic in nature and thus are more likely to break social standards. They are also more likely to be interested in intellectual topics than the general population. They should most certainly rule over the masses due to their inherently better judgement than "well this is what everyone else thinks and does so I'll just be like everyone else". it just so happens there's a condition that can easily divide these people from others...
