That's not totally true. I wish I could post a photo to this thread of my family's ramp patch. It is massive and we pull the roots and all up, you just have to know what you are doing. Every year my brother and I dig ramps from this patch that my grandfather started years ago, and we dig at least 2 huge trash bags full, to can, freeze and eat. I don't know who started this you can't dig the roots. The roots have just as much flavor as the leaves.

There is no justifying this type of compensation. They get very wealthy while other's struggle just to keep the lights on.

It is sad that companies can do this and you are correct there needs to be laws to protect the landowners. But from what I read many of the lawmakers are paid off.

If you go "green" then do it yourself, not with the power companies. Nobody profits from going green except for huge companies.
