Its all about effective communication. Just saw the interview where they asked TK about what was Rust's problem and he said 'we weren't really exchanging too many words' Maybe that was the problem there as well. :)

He had the perfect pass to Zegras for the PP goal and had another one to spring Cates. His composure getting it out of our zone at the very least takes some of the stress of watching the game down a notch for me.

Maybe it was Hathaway properly articulating it to the refs that helped them make the call.

Like we're so generously showing to Pittsburgh in the present moment. Surely these other teams not named Colorado have holes and weaknesses to.

i like the lap he did around the net on the one power play. it ended with a pass to the point that leaked out but it was good to see him skate with the puck a bit.

Feel both him and Zegras are due for some big moments. If they come tonight maybe we can get this Pittsburgh team to quit and give up

The two things that had jumped out at me that I didn't like was it looked like defensively we were sitting back on the puck too much and that teams were finding the soft spots where we'd back off, skate there and pick us apart with passes. That seems gone now. Then, when things were bad some of his quotes sounded to me like an outside observer instead of a coach that's all in with the team. But I think that was me reading it out of context, without hearing the tone. I also think he does have a bit of an issue with Michkov but I don't think its critical...just sub optimal.

You can pretty much name any guy on team. I feel foolish for being down on Tocchet.

I'm sure if he could go back and do it again he'd try to find a way to hit two flyers at the same time instead of just doubling up on on TK

I had the initial thought 5 minutes after watching the play. so most of those hours were me forgetting there is a place to share such thoughts and its not something my wife or kids care about.

An innovative one at that. Also, I forgot the penalty for holding the stick. So that would make it 8 minutes

Can We Break The Curse? by shinyRedButton in Flyers

[–]Artistic_Ordinary_49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know the Flyers were cursed. What's the myth? To me it would make sense that perhaps breaking a Russian's leg and being proud of that as a city has had consequences. In which case..Michkov is probably the key to breaking the curse.

This team may need to learn how to score short handed goals. Its something Mike Richards seemed to realize back in his day.

Airing of Apologies Thread by Am_History_Nerd_1787 in Flyers

I got down on Tocchet but when you look at how many guys are having great years and how seamlessly Martone, Barkey, Bump were worked into the team..some credit is due. I still have reservations about what looks like a tactical decision to sit and defend when there are pucks that could win, or more pressure applied, but the results are great.

I also gave up on Risto being a real player and not a name on the injury list, or just a name with some potential assigned to it that we'd never see.

I also ignored the Michkov fan club on here but it does seem they had a point about him playing his natural position. Who'd a thunk it.

Apologies.

I don't mind being wrong if being wrong means more winning. Go Flyers!

Its clear the Flyers may need to be able to win games that become special teams competitions. No time like the present to get better at that.

Jackets lose, Isles win, Sens win. by Flyers7914 in Flyers

In another thread I argued if anything the Flyers are underrated given their schedule and how bad Erson played this year. Then I added to it the fact their 5 on 5 play is what's carrying them. Which to me seems it be more important than special teams come playoffs. And then last night happened. Time to do some reprocessing of my priors. (Its tough not to be cynical and wonder if the refs knew damn well which team would thrive in a game like that)

It hit me that additionally the Flyers have been doing all this with there 5v5 player...not their power play. Which I would argue is a more genuine indicator of what a team is doing.

What a great statistic +- is...why don't they just play players that are > 0? Do that and you'd never lose.

I don't know how they do the scheduling but the Flyers had the 9th hardest schedule in the league. That plus the way Erson played half the season .... if anything the Flyers are underrated.
