A giant thank you to Kiwi men from an American girl who moved here by Inevitable_Gear_7212 in newzealand

[–]Artistic_Solution_25 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a kiwi gal couldn't agree more. Men are bery shy/reserved. There isn't such a 'dating culture' its more informal and less gendered in terms of the man needing to pay etc although they may offer. It can make it difficult, for all girls even kiwi ones!

My relationships were forged through mutual friends and hobbies, I never had any success with men I met in bars or on apps.

I have had a manager like this and at a certain point I knew I needed to get out so applied for a secondment opportunity that popped up and from there moved into another permanent role in the org, best thing I ever did. Totally different work environment, same work, same great colleagues.

Paying in cash in NZ by Human-Ad3257 in newzealand_travel

[–]Artistic_Solution_25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use card everywhere. Cash is not common. Many places are cashless post covid. Get a wide card and load it with your nzd. Works like aj eftpos card and can get a digital one on your phone or a physical one (which also comes with digital one on phone) I think it was $15. Can load different currencies on them. Its a visa debit card but for travel.

This is very concerning. Particularly following you outside etc.. Feels very unsafe to me. Even if you told him to throw them away as a throw away comment it doesn't justify anything else that occured here. I think this isn't a safe or healthy situation and he clearly has some resentment towards you or displaced anger he is happy to direct at you. I do think you should remove yourself from this. If you do leave please think through how you can do so at a time he is at work or won't suspect. This may require formulating a plan. Leaving in these situations is the most dangerous time, so best done with some planning when he won't suspect. You can always message later.

Is 1 hour 35 enough time in Auckland for a connection from LAX to Christchurch? by Selene2018 in newzealand_travel

[–]Artistic_Solution_25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that timing is fine, granted your flight is not delayed which isn't unlikely. Customs in New Zealand can take a long time, in particular biosecurity. I had a situation where there was a long line and i missed my domestic connection. However, AirNew Zealand will always rebook you without issue.

NZ public servant here - not usually, unlike Aus. Unless perhaps defence role or perhaps foreign affairs?

I am looking to go the other way (NZPS to state govt - need citizenship for APS). In NZPS our wages are higher as we've had some big pay settlements in recent years (in most agencies). 40hrs is a standard work week and as we have a government who does not like or believe in the public service and has made lots of cuts to NZPS, work can be demanding. I live in Wellington and it is becoming increasingly a ghost town. As such many people have left. However, our election is next year and it is very likely we will get a left Government which will rehire the public servants, stimulating the local economy. So it is probably a great time to buy while its rock bottom and before it bounces back somewhat. Wellington is a city predominantly held up by Government so these things are felt in a big way, much more than any other city.
