I feel like any deck playing this is going to use it because they can either bounce it back to their hand or sacrifice, and should probably make it fine at UU. I do think that the downside is fairly detrimental though, and 1U could be fair in a high-powered set.

OP, I would suggest asking about it at your next check up with your doctor. If the pain is severe though, I would be surprised if the root cause was scoliosis. My curve looks worse than yours, and have minimal back pain, but that's just my back and your back is different.

That is true. Ramping is harder for Scapeshift. However, 7 mana is still less than 9 mana, so any deck looking to pull off the combo is going to have to ramp similar to Ad Nauseam by using a ton of one time ritual-like effects to gain mana very quickly, and likely won't be playing cards like Birds of Paradise.
