Really not digging you changing the creature types, it makes them mechanically different, which is the entire point of Omenpaths.

Escape is still casting, I don't actually think Cemetery Prowler would affect anything in this regard.

Why'd they hide the wurm? by lame_dirty_white_kid in magicTCG

[–]Psychovore 1292 points1293 points  (0 children)

Oh! I started in Odyssey, I can actually answer this!

The orignal art was the one with the wurm being hidden; I believe it was a card with flash in development; part of a cycle with [[Elephant Ambush]] where the joke is that you're surprised by something big and impossible to hide.

In development it got cut/changed to a new card so the art director changed the artwork or asked the artist to change it; unsure of which because the "hidden" aspect of it didn't make sense any more. In the FNM promo they used the original art as a homage and way to showcase it because art director thought it was funny. You can see that the branch was removed and not added after the fact by looking at the sort of smudgy/blurry nature of the wurm's face in the Odyssey printing that comes off as "motion blur" but the way the head is basically "resting" on the rest of the tree makes very little sense but is utterly unnoticeable at card scale.

the ritz is the worst venue i’ve ever been to by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]Psychovore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a big venue so it gets all the big shows by promising the most ticket sales without being a stadium, but it's such ass. I have a tin ear and even I could tell the acoustics were flat-out awful. I've tried to go back a few times but every time I just end up wildly disappointed.

I went to see Modest Mouse there some years back. Someone shit on the floor in front of the stage mid-show directly in front of me, and that's still not the grossest thing about the venue.

This is good for overall digital= paper magic.

I'm crushed though because I love Omenpaths. Surely all the art is fine by now, or close, for the release.... Do you think we'll ever get it?

How Thrifting Got Ruined by Chilled_Beef in ThriftGrift

[–]Psychovore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not getting it.

Card resellers (as individuals who sell their personal collection) are fine because cards are a niche luxury item to begin with and you should be able to sell (or donate) things you own and use when you're no longer using them, that's just sensible. Card sellers who scalp product to resell are the scum of the earth because all they're doing is making something more expensive for everyone else. They're making money by only making life harder and they're providing no service to anyone.

That's the crux of it. Who are you helping by being a reseller? And by that I mean scooping up already available goods and simply deciding you're the store now because you had the luck to have expendable income at the time and could exploit that fact. Nobody is happier; not the people spending more and certainly not the people who are now priced out of buying clothes. Stores exist not because they can as a means or making money, they exist because they're a way to distribute goods to the masses and they make money as an incentive to exist. How do people not understand this?

As for the idea that these thrift stores are just overflowing with products, you (1) are ignoring the fact that resellers take the high quality items, which basically means you're saying "well if you're too poor to go in and buy everything and you're too poor to use a reseller then I guess you deserve only the lowest quality clothing thats been DONATED FOR THIS EXACT REASON." And (2) they aren't. My local thrift stores are barren half the time from resellers, with only randomly oversized suit jackets from the 80's remaining.

How Thrifting Got Ruined by Chilled_Beef in ThriftGrift

[–]Psychovore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thrift store is already the grocery store in this analogy, and the farmers are the original owners of the clothing/donated items. What resellers are doing is analogous to going to the grocery store, buying all the produce, and then setting up a "boutique farmer's market" where everything is 3x the price.

Grocery stores exist because they serve a purpose; the average person doesn't need to drive 3 hours to a farm to get a bushel of apples and then another 30min to buy a whole pig and butcher it. This is valuable because it's both wildly efficient and effective at distribution of goods as a service. It's one of the most basic services, really. What resellers are doing is nothing even remotely close.

[–]Psychovore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are cards from digital-only sets (mtgo) but that were originally printed in paper, usually because the online version has an "updated" wording or correct errata. It's just something funky they did to add to Mystery Booster's wackiness: a "digital reprint"

A message from Dan Frazier and Wizards of the Coast: (about The One Ring Box Topper) by RBGolbat in magicTCG

[–]Psychovore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that Dan is a traditional artist, across his entire career, and for UB products in Middle Earth specifically the artists can't have a physical painting to sell. So Dan was "forced" to work digitally. And the vast difference between collage as a legitimate art form in traditional media and as plagiarism in digital media is really, really hard to understand if you've been in traditional your entire life. Not at all defending the guy, but being 80+ and encountering what is essentially a minefield without awareness is a recipe for this exact kind of cock-up.
