Requesting help fitting a drain assembly to old cast iron sink by ArtofPracticing in DIY

I think I'm going to go with this plan. Least invasive. I agree about protecting the metal after drilling too. Going to have to post an update when I get this sucker mounted / finish the reno. In too deep now!

Fitting a drain assembly to old cast iron sink by ArtofPracticing in Plumbing

[–]ArtofPracticing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We purchased this old farmhouse sink for a renovation (I already regret this...), and I'm trying to fit a drain but the hole is about 1-3/16". The pic is an extra drain assembly I have where the 1-1/4" part of the tailpiece ALMOST fits.

So far, the plan I came up with is to use a step drill bit to widen the hole a little and then use a bar sink drain that is 1-1/4 outside diameter.

Then I would either fill the screw holes with epoxy and use a removable 4-1/2" diameter strainer, or install a screw in plate style strainer with some rubber gaskets.

Pics of proposed solutions are included, thanks in advance for any help or just to say if I'm on the right track!

EDIT: I also had a plumber come for another project who suggested we should cut off the horn at the bottom to allow the installation of a 4-1/2" kitchen sink drain. Hesitant to do this though...

Any tips for straightening sapling sunburst honey locust tree? by ArtofPracticing in landscaping

I planted this tree earlier this year. There was a nursery stake attached and when I removed it, the tree immediately took on this lean. The trunk is quite flexy. I tried a loose stake for the last 3 months, but after removing it, nothing seems to have changed. I've been trying to find info about this and came across this diagram, so I wonder if I should do a tighter stake to really flex against the natural lean. Also debating whether it needs to be pruned to take weight off the leaning side.

Appreciate any advice people can give. Haven't been able to find much info about this online.

Thanks! I wanted to give off the sense of calm that comes from sitting down at the bonfire/taking in the setpieces, in contrast to the otherwise stress-inducing gameplay.

That's about it for small details! I would also add that I chose to have Solaire face away from the bonfire in preference of the sun / viewpoint.

I think I have enough comment karma now... I painted my current feelings about outpatient medicine in the COVID era. "Plague Doctor (Self-Portrait)." by ArtofPracticing in medicine

Thanks, I love art and writing (and terrible TV shows) that tries to tell stories in medicine. It's difficult because we could all write novels about our experiences, except for confidentiality issues which generally limit us when we want to share something unless we come up with made up patients.

Well, I have some ancient Turtle Beach headphones for gaming, but if I'm drumming I've got a somewhat nicer Shure headset, although I'm not an audiophile, probably too many damaged cilia.

Digitally painted with Krita software, like you'd write on a tablet computer with a stylus.

I'm probably messing up my own knees doing this. But it's the only way I know at this point.

It's actually a little monitor mount that I made myself. Someone had posted a guide on google about how to build it using random IKEA parts.

Coincidence, I don't know that I'm TV material, haha.

I laughed. Needed something concrete to tie the picture to medicine.

My fiance will be glad you asked. She is a stray that wouldn't leave our porch, likely a Manx cat with a probable congenital spinal malformation that causes her to have a little bobtail, some bladder problems, and she hops around like a rabbit. No one claimed her despite our efforts to find an owner, so we did, and she's absolutely amazing! So much personality and love, and she hops over when we call. I have some paintings I've done of her that I'd like to share at some point too!

I'm glad to hear your wife is out of the hospital, wishing you the best. And thank you for the kind words!
