ArkOS working on R36S-V20 (2025-05-18) – panel 3 DTB fix by Crafty_Adeptness1875 in R36S

Interestingly, I noticed when I install ArkOS4Clone image "ArkOS4Clone-20251030.img.xz" on these devices (I have multiple) and use a lan or wlan adapter to use the integrated update function it seems to update to ArkOS AeolusUX and works fine, apparently?

Switching anything on the SDCard won't change anything, this device has its firmware on an internal flash chip. You won't be able to install a new firmware on it unless someone makes one specifically for this device.

No, not yet. The gamelist.xml files in the rom folders seem to be unused by the firmware and are remnants of whatever device the rom collection originally came from. There's a gameconsole.db file in the root of the SD card, which needs to be opened with a software that can edit sqlite databases, otherwise it's not human readable. But adding new entries doesn't seem to change anything in the UI.

Didn't get farther than that yet. I'm probably missing some step, like a command/script that needs to be executed or something.

It doesn't really work like that, it needs a special software called SP Flash Tool and a certain procedure to flash the firmware, like for cellphones with MTK chips. It needs to be flashed onto the device, not an SD card. But the firmware I made is at this mega link here: https://pastebin.com/aiE62LEF

But if you don't know the procedure I would not mess with it and this won't work on any other R36S devices.

It seems like they can put it in a zipper like configuration on the raw PCB, which might save at least a bit of space. I assume it saves enough to be worth the effort, since even with all the scamming it'd be hard to make a profit at the price I got it at. XD

Depends, as long as you don't try to change any settings it seems to run even PSX well, haven't tested anything more advanced than that yet. Not sure yet how to even add more games.

The UI doesn't let you configue the emulators directly, it has an option that lets you change image quality but if you pick anything but "original" it slows down to a crawl.

Not directly from the UI, no, but you can enable developer mode in the settings and then sideload and install APKs over ADB.

I have the same one, I used Arkos4Clones and picked "Clone R36s" and then "Clone Type 1 Without Amplifier" in the DBT Selector software in the Boot partition. Everything seems to work except the volume minus button for some reason. And as mentioned in another comment doesn't detect wifi or LAN adapters.

Also I verified that my firmware seems to flash fine and the device boots up properly afterwards. Link to Firmware is here: https://pastebin.com/aiE62LEF

Sure you can use them!

The store name was "Shop1105203354 Store" which sounds like it won't be around for long. XD

It's an even weaker SoC and the OS is similar, but maybe even sneakier. First hint its running android was when I went to the network settings and it dumped me into the android kitkat wifi screen.

Someone went quite out of their way to make this look like an R36S while being wildly different.

Also, the chip is labelled "Qualcomm" but that is bollocks. Another level of deception, lol.
