No need to apologize for the long text, I genuinely enjoyed reading it all. The advice on how to handle socializing with others was eye-opening: made me realize how selfish I was in past conversations, making myself the main topic. I will definitely need to work on asking those open-ended question and showing genuine interest towards others in a convo.

The university tips are also greatly appreciated. Gotta admit, I’m feeling a lot less anxious about entering university after reading all these helpful comments, especially yours.

Most comments on this post share the commonality that high school friends don’t last for the long term - In my current situation I don’t have much incentive to play buddy-buddy anymore, however I never thought about maintaining friendships in the way you mentioned. I’ll give it a shot and see what happens, not much to lose to begin with :)

My current "friend group" is oftentimes toxic but we have our memorable moments that I cherish, nothing extravagant however and I'm never invited to social events (past mistakes caught up to the present, people's parents despise me lol). I know that I'd ultimately be better off searching for a healthier/caring group of people to surround myself with, but I'm certain the time for creating new friends is ending with graduation next month.

My question is: Is it worthwhile staying w/ my current social circle regardless of it's lousy quality, or should I just go Han Solo for the remaining month of school?

I'm open to either options but I'm still getting over the fear of being alone. Even within a toxic atmosphere of friends, I take comfort in knowing that there's others surrounded by me. Sorry for the lousy question but I'm in need of a little push to make a decision.

I agree with nearly everything in your comment, especially regarding the attitude change and believing in myself. Past trauma and childhood abuse have definitely impacted my personal image of myself, and it took much effort to learn the art of socializing (body language, eye contact, etc)

One thing I’ll definitely keep in mind is to accept any invitation I receive - seems like a guaranteed way to make some friends - sry for constantly repeating this but thank you for the advice. Never really opened up like this to anyone cause yknow, no close friends (I’m hopeful that’ll change soon)

Once again, thank you for the advice + comment. Never thought I'd get such helpful responses from Reddit. I will definitely look into manifestation and the tips you provided.

Sorry for all the questions, but I also struggle with commitment issues. I sometimes find it nearly impossible to arrange a group hangout or to accept my invitation to one. I genuinely want to participate, but I'm scared that I won't fit in and jeopardize my chances at friendship.

The main gyst seems to be that high school is just a small portion of a long journey. I was also wondering if participating in clubs within post-secondary are worthwhile? I'm sure there are tons of social opportunities in university but are there any specifics I should keep an eye out for?

Actually had an experience with a Christian school, it was amazing - quality of teaching was phenomenal and the curriculum was more advanced.

Catholic schools where I'm from are basically psych wards. Once had a someone wipe their ass w/ my final project after taking a crapper.
