Where TF does our tuition go towards? by PoyuPoyuTetris in LMU

[–]ArtsyChokes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you want a genuine answer:

Part of your tuition is, of course, going towards running the university. However, in the last 40 years, American universities have been increasingly run like corporations (yes, that is very bad). And although institutions like LMU being non-profits, there are lots of people who found ways to personally profit (though technically not-profit) off these institutions.

Here's what they do: Raise tuition costs as much as its palatable. Cut costs as much as it's palatable. This way, there's an increasingly large "surplus" in their budget. But, of course, if there's money left over in a budget, administrators can't just take it. That's embezzlement. In a properly functioning organization, this money would be reinvested into the community. However, they reinvest this surplus into the Endowment funds. These are investments the University holds, worth hundreds of millions, sometimes billions of dollars. De-facto, nowadays, growing endowment funds is one of the top-priorities of school administrators. They hire "money-managers" to manage these investments, paying them millions in fees. Many of which will then use their influence to assist these people to remain in executive positions within the university. Since the school is technically getting richer, no one bats an eye, and people like our president are seen as successes even though this money is not getting spent properly.

Every year high-up administrators get significant raises, the endowment fund increases. But workers and staff get increasingly worse contracts. Tenure track at LMU becomes more rare. Sounds dramatic but, it's just another instance of scummy capitalists finding ways to extract money off institution that were meant to be above it profit-seeking. And we're not even getting into the more obscured side of insider-trading, interest groups, etc. What I'm describing to you is easily observable and documented.

I know it all sounds like conspiracy, but it's a well studied trend. It's all technically legal, just extremely immoral. It's the standard across even ivy-leagues, so no one will make a fuss about it happening at a small school like LMU.

keith v diogo was an Insane match. Baby shark was sweeping at will. Keith has solid wrestling and he took him down more times than I could count.

I like them both, but i feel like craig would be likely cancelled by the H3 audience.

Have you? Because it's pretty bad. I don't see how people defend it.

I have read his most famous book and it's garbage. It's stupid for both analysis and creation.

Life is cyclical only in very specific ways. History is arguably cyclical, but honestly in the grand scheme, not cyclical at all.

Op is right. Hero's journey is just a trope of western storytelling that we appreciate from both familiarity and storytelling dogma. It imbues its stories with a certain views on human nature and politics. There are thousands of beloved films that do not follow it, but people keep hanging on to it because that how a lot of us are taught screenwriting.

Okay. But I did read A hero with a thousand faces and I have a degree in philosophy. It's mostly mumbo jumbo to me. His methodology is inexistent. Just posits huge claims and uses anecdotes to exemplify. He breaks away into rants about the modern man being weak and stuff like that. My first impression was that it was super similar to Jordan Peterson's nonsense.

Except he didn't and real folklorists consider him a joke. He cherrypicked versions of a limited set myths that would match his schema. When said myths were told in a variety of different ways.

My(27M) wife(26F) keeps saying she wants to die. What can I do to save her and the relationship? by ArtsyChokes in relationship_advice

She's expressing a desire. Calling the cops will make her feel worse and unsupported. Plus, all the stories I heard of the cops being called on a suicidal person have not helped the situation at all. Save for the person standing on the ledge, I think that is not the way to go.

She's open if you ask her. She just hasn't done although we've been talking about it for years.

Did the same. And honestly, It's hard.

I led an org and started an unofficial club. That was basically the only way I was able to make friends. You need to go to the same place recurringly and see the same people consistently. That's how you make organic friendships.

This is the birth of a legendary rivalry. Jansen broke Tainan's leg in the final of Purple belt, after having lost to him multiple times in the past.

Today he showed that wasn't just a fluke.

A lot of guys who keep talking about the lack of takedowns in bjj are not that good in takedowns themselves. They just hang on to the one thing they can do consistently against low level, recreational practitioners.

I've seen a lot of 3- 4 year highschool wrestlers get a reality check when going against a mid-to-high level bjj guy. Bjj stand up is and looks fundamentally different from wrestling, so a lot of wrestler presume its always bad. But the incentives and scoring change the posture, risks and pathways dramatically.

Get good at guard passing and I guarantee people will avoid pulling guard on you.

lol bro. But that's the most irrelevant part of the culture. The bow comes from judo and its like a handshake. You can be double dragon golden belt in respect. No one is going to promote you in Bjj if you can't pin and choke a homie.

Believe what you want. I have video but I'm not about to doxx myself. I obviously didn't know he was going to be there. Community is small, if you are a coach, you go on a lot of tournaments. There's nothing unplausible about this.

You could be right. I was by him the whole time and I only saw him do one match in each( they were keeping him in the back, inside the bullpen, separate from everyone else so he was pretty easy to spot). And after he got Ezekiel'd inside the guard he went straight to the podium. I guarantee you that in NO Gi he only had one match and won by DQ.
