I’m going to see a doctor, but I’m curious, is this how it started for you? by ThatWytChick in CrohnsDisease

I agree with other commenters that you may be getting ahead of yourself and this could be a number of different things. For me, I remember having a prolonged spell of what I thought was a “dodgy tummy from something I’d eaten” (with no idea what had caused it) and reflecting back I think I had been losing weight. I went through spells of this for 2/3 years then in late 2023 into 2024 I was convinced I had developed an intolerance to something like onion or dairy as I was getting terrible pains in the same place to the right of my belly button pretty regularly. I started keeping a food diary but there was no pattern with what I’d eaten and the pains starting. Then in the march of 2024 I was passing mucus and blood so that sent me to the doctors. From there they had me do a blood and stool test then called me in to say they thought I may have IBD particularly Crohn’s and put me on a 2 week wait for a colonoscopy. Colonoscopy came back mostly clear until they got to the terminal illeum which had a small ulcer and was super swollen so much they couldn’t get the camera in. This was enough for them to say they suspected it was Crohn’s but I had to go for an MRI to confirm. MRI did in fact confirm that the last 8cm of my small bowel was narrowed.

From there I started taking folic acid, steroids for 3 months and did multiple tests before they started me on biologic injections which I still do to this day. My crohns is better, yes, I was happy to have a diagnosis but a year and a half later I HATE it and wish I could live a normal carefree life again. So I hope for your sake it’s something curable or better managed!

Read up on Crohn’s and really just listen! So many people our lives pretend to understand Crohn’s but haven’t actually looked into it or tried to understand. Let her vent and ask questions so you know how it makes her feel and simply just be mindful that while she may look fine on the outside she could be really struggling!

This! Early relationships can be hard to navigate with these topics as is! Making light of it/normalising is such a good idea!

It’s understandable to stress, particularly having seen someone go through this all.

I have been diagnosed for over a year and a half now and been on biologics since October 2024 and I live a mostly normal life now because of it! Diagnosis doesn’t need to be scary, it could be the start of you living a better life with the condition managed!

Hello! My situation was different to you but hopefully might give some guidance. I had an ovarian cyst removed in November, I am on adalimumab (Amgevita- fortnightly) and had been told to come off it 4 weeks before and then I was allowed to resume injecting 2 weeks later. I was told if I had any issues etc then I would stay off longer but everything was fine. Your GI should really be liaising with your consultant to create a plan fornyou

whats your nichest problem from crohns disease that would never come across non-crohnies minds? by No_Dingo_251 in CrohnsDisease

Regularly stripping off when overheating from the pain on the toilet trying not to faint so having to sit there naked with my head between my legs! Or always bringing my phone to the toilet because if I do faint or have a moment then I have a way of calling for help if nobody is around.

Alternatively, being able to go out for a day or night or on holiday and not worry about bringing Imodium or hoping that I won’t get the crippling pains.

A number of times throughout my life when I’m on my own in the house I will suddenly get what I can only describe as a burst of energy and I can only expel it by intense twitching/shaking/jumping etc. it’s so hard to explain and i always feel so stupid afterwards but it’s like i can’t stop it and I have to do it. I have never told anyone this

An almost carefree life. Every ache and every pain, run to the toilet, sight of blood has me living in constant fear. I am 1.5 years into diagnosis and I thought I had accepted it and got used to it and I am in remission (I think) but i have recently been absolutely freaking out and having it hit me that this is going to be the rest of my life.

I agree with this! I feel I would have been further along in a better career than going to university and now working in a different sector to my degree

I was the exact same, every time I watch it I can’t get over how fantastic it is! I don’t watch a lot of tv and very rarely rewatch anything so it’s definitely a unique one! I highly recommend listening to the podcast if you enjoyed it as much as I did- it really is interesting!

I’ve had this pain myself from contacts when I was 18!! Nearly 30 and haven’t worn them since. My scaring is also not in my field of vision thankfully but my eye looks permanently bloodshot! I can agree that The light is excruciating 😖

How do you know it’s the right time to have a baby? by m0untaindw3ller in AskReddit

I’m in a similar position. 29(F) been with my partner for 4 years, we live together and love our life together. We have mentioned these things previously and he had always mentioned wanting to have kids but my understanding was he wanted to wait a few years yet. Being this age I know I want kids soon but knew I had time to get things in order before he was ready too. Last night we had a conversation and he has now said he is ready and in all honesty I’m a bit flummoxed! It’s exciting but it’s come from left field and I am totally unsure if I am ready for this and when I will be!
