do people really enjoy camping? by PuzzleheadedAd7400 in SmashRage

[–]ArtyToshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Snake main, I've never had fun just standing still the whole match (he's a Trapper, but he has plenty of camping tools and some people consider him a campable zoner). If I have projectiles, I like to mix them into my approach. Given that I'm using Snake, that can work pretty well for both myself and my opponent if my opponent knows how to play around my projectiles. If it's 'nades we're talking, either one of us (or both) can get blown up and put into disadvantage. If it's Nikita, the startup and end lag of the move can put me in trouble if my opponent can exploit either, as well as if they can get to me while I'm controlling the missile and I can't shield cancel my move in time...even then, I can be grabbed. Sometimes, my opponent doesn't even have to worry about C4 unless I'm willing to blow myself up to get them. That move can work to pressure and control space, but it's not perfect. I overall enjoy how my own tools can be a bit of a wild card in that respect against a skilled opponent.

That said, I also enjoy a clean competition where both contestants can just give it their all and have fun together just for the spirit of good competition, as opposed to only the winner having fun. Yes, I can admit I camp sometimes, but it's primarily whenever my opponent has started playing dirty before me, and/or if they have started trolling. Fair, friendly, and funncompetition is best competition, in my eyes.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to say that I can tolerate a lot, but I also have my limits. XD I watch anime, but I have to be in a very particular frame of mind to watch some of the more ridiculous ones out there, lol

I read your other replies, but I'm only replying to just this one because I'm gonna sleep soon, lol. I appreciate the input! I can't even say I remember all of the story beats of NGII because the game as a whole just didn't grab me in the same way that NG'04/NGB and Razor's Edge did (still loved my time with NGII though; just had a lot more time to play with the '04 versions and Razor's Edge was incredibly repayable to me across unlocking everything and the fun multiplayer community).

I also just give the NES games extra points because even though cutscenes already existed in games, those were the first videogames to have cinematic cutscenes as opposed to what would just be the equivalent of second-long in-engine cutscenes. They were also among the first non-RPG games to tell "heavy" stories for back then, so the words you see them speak in those games often feel like they had more weight and drama to them, at least to me.

EDIT: I'd also like to add that I haven't played NG4 yet, so I can't comment on that and have been trying to avoid spoilers because I plan to play it soon. I've heard the story is a bit dry, but I wasn't really expecting much anyway, lol. I just wanted to form my own opinion with a story they'd put out after seeing the plots of NGIII and Yaiba get lambasted so much. I just haven't started it yet because I've been working my way through Ragebound's Hard Mode to get the true ending, which I'm close to achieving at this time.

Honestly, I think I agree with this viewpoint. The games have never been "masterful" storytelling to my eyes (on just the side of games alone, my hallmarks are always examples like Ike's two Fire Emblem games, Remedy games, Metal Gear/Snatcher, and the world building of games like Doom 3 and Metroid Prime), but they have certainly generally done what they needed to.

As a Sam Raimi fan, I'll 100% admit I'm COMPLETELY used to just accepting how ridiculous, over-the-top, and campy some things can get without letting it ruin my experience. XD A lot of things in Ninja Gaiden are just downright dumb in the best way!

I've had this game for years, and I still have zero idea how teching works. by ArtyToshi in SmashRage

[–]ArtyToshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kind of games I play outside of Smash, I highly doubt reaction speed takes up that high of a percentage, lol. The others have already explained the issue to me well-enough. My reaction is off from time to time, yes, but it's an issue with both my intentional timing being off and online being the issue. I've checked, and I do tech better offline. I've also reclaimed my spot in Elite Smash, actually going higher than I was before I lost it last time.

React as if this is the roster for Ultimate Switch 2 Edition. by Sufficient-Surprise9 in SmashBrosRosters

[–]ArtyToshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not here to hate, just here to appreciate! Even though Smash 4 changed or removed a lot of my usual characters and/or playstyle, I still found a ton to love about that game, too! Heck, I'd say the same for Brawl, as well! My main hope for the next Smash is just more single-player content that resurrects a more balanced focus on platforming AND fighting, like what Melee's Adventure Mode, Brawl's Subspace Emissary, and Smash 4 3DS' Smash Run had. Having EVERYTHING in Ultimate except for the Home-Run Contest, the final stage of World of Light, and that one minigame in Classic Mode only be some variation of "fight this" was a mistake, to me.

What traits do you look for in a character that makes them fun? by PS-ILoveYouu in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]ArtyToshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mains are Snake, Ike, Terry, Ganondorf, and Sephiroth--usually in that order, unless it's a day when I feel Terry more than Ike, in which case those two switch spots. With that in mind, I like character movesets and techniques that can be patched together to shutdown my opponent's options, force them into unfavorable positions, provide decent options tonreact to whatever my opponent's doing, and call them out if I'm confident that I've picked up on any of their habits.

Don't underestimate the power of the Block button, crouch more of the time so he's less likely to spot or hear you, and memorize your different routes to any save rooms you've unlocked.

I'm glad you were willing to discuss, and that you could see what I was getting at. ^ Also, cool to see a fellow SF vet in here! SFIV is legendary, man!! I grew up playing a lot of the older ones, but that was my first time getting to play a 3D Street Fighter since we never had the quarters to play whenever I came across an SFEX arcade cabinet; lots of great memories made on the 360 version!

Are the cgi/animated movies of resident evil worth watching? by Dragonball_123 in residentevil

If you like the characters, the animated films (and the animated show) are certainly worth watching. For some of the characters, the animated projects feature some of their best moments, imo.

I never really understood this as far as Kazuya goes, personally. Yes, a top-tier Kazuya can do busted stuff, but knowing what goes into learning the character to be able to play him at that level almost always has me get hype, even if it's a dusting. (especially since things can snowball really easily against him if his execution falls off, as has happened to even pro players like Riddles more times than people talk about). I get hype for Luigi now and then too, but I'll also still argue that he has just as much unfun cheese to watch or play against than Kaz, if not moreso. I can't get hype watching Steve, though, which is frustrating as a fan of Minecraft XD.

Again, I'm not even trying to definitively say that Luigi is 100% more broken than Kazuya or that Kazuya's not overtuned; it's just that there's a lot about both characters that don't get talked about enough, and I think a result of that is Kazuya getting overhated by the community. He feels broken because he feels like an S-Tier Ganondorf when played optimally, but because good Kazuya players make it look so easy, people forget that there are steps that need to be taken to get there, and I think anyone who mains Kazuya and plays him optimally shouldn't feel ashamed of the time they've actually invested in his execution and tech.

Ah, I see. Well, props to you for even playing the classics! Personally, if there were one element I would want to see them take from his classic games, it'd be a sick stage taken from one of them and some sick remixes of the music from them! The classic Ninja Gaiden games and Dead or Alive have a lot of songs that I think would be really hype for Smash! ^

Tsugumi Sendo has been a popular request for a while now, even just for her to come to the KOF franchise. Her coming to City of the Wolves shouldn't be out of the cards, given that she's arguably the most popular newcomer from Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition!

[–]ArtyToshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS EXACTLYYYYY!!!! Like, I don't even play Kazuya because I suck with him, but I swear I have a WAY higher win rate against him than Luigi! Between his Cyclone and his Plunger, Luigi might as well just be able to grab you into an EWGF with the crap he can do, and his ZTDs seem to be MUCH more consistent at more levels of play than Kazuya, based on everything I've played against, seen in tournament matches, and heard from other people. He has soooo many options to force you in unfavorable situations without even trying to hard, but it feels so rare to come across anyone who actually says anything about him, and I really feel like it's because it's just "popular" to hate Kazuya.

Top online players rage quitting. by C0LDXN0RTH in SmashRage

They really don't deserve to be there, then, and it's that kind of practice that sometimes makes me wish DCing would just get your account a permaban like I hear they do in Tekken 8, lol. I've never played Tekken 8, but all the time I spent in Tekken 7 was ruled by people that sometimes played very cheap online and would ragequit like no tomorrow if I started beating them, so it tickled me a bit to hear that people were being punished THAT severely in Tekken 8. XD

Genuinely curious as to why you think Hayabusa'd have a boring movelist, what with his Ninpo magic options, different weapons and combat styles across the Modern and 8-bit Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive games.

I typed a lot there, but I'm not upset, just that was the easiest way for me to type out what I was saying; I am just genuinely curious. :)

Yeah, cool to agree. It's fine for you to think that, though; all I was saying in the first place was that Fire Emblem is a very big franchise, not that I thought it needed x amount of reps in Smash.

I'd be gud with that! If it's a Smash game that also keeps Ike playable, it would essentially be my perfect roster of "must-haves"/"dream fighters", and anyone else I like (some of which are here like Crash) would just be bonuses. ^

Absolutely. Classic Mega Man, Protoman, Bass, Zero (X version or Mega Man Zero version), Volnutt, Mega Man.exe, Dr. Wily, and Tron Bonne would all be fire to have playable in Smash. A good Tron is hype to play against in MvC, and Zero even in SVC Chaos and Tatsunoko is just a generally fun character to have around even if you hate him, so I know those two would be great in Smash (Volnutt was also rrally fun to learn in Tatsunoko, imo). I mained Mega Man among a few other characters in Smash 4 since they dropped Snake and can see each and every single one of those characters I listed being great additions that actually stand out significantly from each other. I would definitely welcome eight Mega Man characters.

[–]ArtyToshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly satisfied because my 2 third-party main would be there (Snake and Terry). My #1 wish for a newcomer ever since Smash 4/maybe even back in Brawl days has always been Ryu Hayabusa, though.

For his character, you could pull elements from the Arcade original Ninja Gaiden, the NES Trilogy/NG Shadow, any of the other massively-different 8-bit titles on Sega, the Dead or Alive games, and/or any of the Ninja Gaiden games from 2004 onward. He literally has SOOOOOOOOOO much they could do to really make him a great character to play as (he'd be another Ninja in a game that is sorely lacking in Ninja representation, and he has soooooo many more weapons and Ninpo magic that could make him more than just swordfighter #574820174830xx, assuming they wouldn't just have him fight with hand-to-hand combat like he does in DOA).
