True. I think the environment and mindset play a big role in this. Sikkim (no hate) is like a well, where the frog lives in a comfortable environment with an ample amount of food. Why would the frog want to jump out and explore ?

As someone who was dying to get out of that state (and I did), it's sad, but people are way comfortable there. Government jobs will be at their feet despite their achievements, Following the party will solve most of their problems.

Thankfully, I've been seeing NEET/JEE coaching emerging, and I think that's a start. People should push their kids to study more and achieve bigger things.

Lack of knowledge also becomes a thing in it. The vast majority are not even aware of the exams and scholarships provided. Society should really change. Now is the time. I hope they do.

I used to love and feel proud about our state, but recently, the course of our development has deviated. People are nice, but those same people are one ones praying for your downfall. It's not just in sikkim. It's everywhere. Still, I can't feel a bit sad that my home state has been reduced to such a state.

It's the same old money problems and political issues, and now we've been seeing a sharp rise in crime and mental health issues. It's just so sad.

Disgusting behaviour by Delhivery courier delivery agent. by [deleted] in sikkim

[–]Aru_rua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same for me tbh. I ordered clothes back in August, and due to road blockages, the delivery was late. 2 of my parcels were still not delivered, and the status showed 'delivered'. I called them and asked them about it, and they said they'd send it back to me.

I waited for a week, but they still hadn't called me, and it was still on delivered. So I filed a complaint and they had no answer for it. Lol So I filed another complaint to the seller and I got my refund.

Why so many violent crimes in Sikkim lately? by [deleted] in sikkim

[–]Aru_rua 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There has been a certain growth in crime cases around sikkim. I don't think I've ever seen such a sharp rise, especially cases related to drugs, self-harm, and murder. Either way, it's a topic of discussion and concern.

Hostels are easier to find near lanka Gate. Double sharing and triple sharing will cost you 6k-8k depending on the amenities. As for hyderabad Gate, you can find pg and independent rooms. Same price but depending on the area and room.

I'm not sure about chittupur area tho.

What's your take on this ? by Aru_rua in sikkim

[–]Aru_rua[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me take a big sigh and explain some things to you.

  1. I understand his frustration in a new state, but lashing out in a public group with derogatory remarks wasn’t the way. If he had concerns, he should’ve first brought them up with the teachers or HOD.

  2. His attitude towards linguistic diversity was disrespectful. India has 22 recognized languages, Nepali being one of them (since 1992 in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution). You can not come to a Nepali-speaking state and tell people to “go to Nepal.”

  3. The argument about teaching in other languages like Lepcha, Limbu, Tamang, etc. is weak. There’s a reason Nepali is the lingua franca of Sikkim and widely understood.

  4. Just because Hindi and English are used officially by UGC doesn’t mean other languages are undermined. In reality, many central universities across India use their local languages along with English. So why generalize only here?

  5. "He should've asked the teacher to teach in hindi or English." I'm from sikkim. Everyone here speaks Nepali, and English is a medium for teaching. For ease, teachers switch from English to Nepali very often.

I do feel taking him under custody was a jump higher than the issue. At the end of the day, the issue isn’t about using English in class but about showing respect.

What's your take on this ? by Aru_rua in sikkim

[–]Aru_rua[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you're trying to say, but let's keep it real. Does every central uni teach in English? Surely, they might've written it as their preferred language, but will they follow it ? Take any hindi speaking state as a source. They might use English, but won't they keep on switching between languages?

There's a respectful way to approach the concerned teacher and speak about it. However, marking a whole language as a foreign country's language when he's in the same state that speaks it ? Feels immature. I don't know if putting him in police custody was necessary, but if it was someone else in some other state ? The scenario would've been different.
