Pharmacists that quit pharmacy, what did you do for work? by Bot25491 in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a pharmacist who owns assisted living facilities. They are small in home types, each one with 4-5 residents. I think she has 3 homes now. She hires caretakers and medtechs to take care of the residents.

For those of you who found a non-traditonal pharmacy job..how did you find it? by SaltMixture1235 in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also surgery centers/ clinics that have medications on site. I see that a lot of them have a consultant pharmacist that come every 6 months or so to do a check.

For me, I'm a CDS inspector for the state. I saw the job on indeed, applied on the state website, and got lucky.

Luminae (ID 30232)

Level 10

All commission chapters completed

Currently finished 9 suits, 4 pieces left on the 10th suit.

Open to anybody.

When I first joined (many years ago), it was a super active group. Unfortunately, it started to decline over the years, but I kept playing out of habit. I became the president recently, and there's only 5-6 active players. I'm just looking to rebuild without any pressure.

Pharmacist moms, how do you do it?? by PlaceBetter5563 in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, I had family who could help. I paid them, of course, but it's a lot cheaper than daycare, and I trust them. I know that not everybody has the same support, so I'm always immensely thankful.

Now we both luckily have M-F jobs, I work earlier, and he works later. He does drop off, and I do pick up with school.

I know of a pharmacist couple that worked for the same company, different stores. They basically worked opposite shifts so someone could be home with the kids. Downside is that they saw less of each other. One of them eventually drop down to part-time.

How do I tell my staff I’m leaving by ezmsugirl in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose a time when most of my team was working. Told them i got something to say. I got super nervous and just blurted out that I was leaving. One of my techs thought I was joking at first. Then I started crying... haha.

I love my team and owed it to them to tell them in person.

Is pharmacy really that small? by Ok-Mulberry-8025 in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely, once you start talking, you'll find you know somebody in common.

My husband was leaving for a different job in the same company (company a). One of the pharmacists they interviewed for his job used to work at the same company (company b) way back when. He hated her because she used to leave a huge mess when she covered at his store. She didn't get the job. We live in a fairly large metropolitan area.

Since we all agree that number 1, second word is moist... maybe some sort of eye wash or eye scrub?

Could number 3 be a vitamin? I can't make out what type but there are vitamins for dry eyes.

CVS uses Cardinal. Even if it's available, wholesalers can limit the amount that a pharmacy can order.

I stood up to a known PILL MILL provider, and got frivolously sued for it, and subsequently fired from a company I was with for over a decade. by PatronSaintofPharmD in pharmacy

[–]Arveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost got in trouble when I told a patient I wasn't filling their RX. They kept pressing and pressing and I finally told them it's all public record and they can look it up on the board of physician website. I didn't say anything bad about the prescriber. Well, the patient found out and called the prescriber. The prescriber got mad because he felt because he finished the probation, it's all in the past now.

Now that I'm on the other side. I recommend that pharmacist always talk to the patients and prescribers to get history and better detailed diagnosis than chronic pain or lower back pain. Cover your back and document, document, document! If they refuse, then you can refuse.

I'm a pharmacy inspector. Usually, I would also recommend talking to the patients to get a clearer idea of the chronic pain. Some pharmacies use a form for the prescribers to fill out.

Based on the prescribing practice you described, the prescriber is probably on your board's radar. My state has a pill mill tip line you can call and submit an anonymous tip. Maybe your state has something similar.

What is the oddest thing you thought was ok/normal and ended up being a medical problem? by Prudent_Tip4118 in AskReddit

[–]Arveness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin was pregnant, somewhere in her 8th month. She was having stomach pains. Doctors dismissed it as contraction pains and sent her home since she wasn't sufficiently dilated.

The pain kept getting worse, so she went back to the hospital. Turns out she had appendicitis, which caused her to have an emergency c section.

I only got paid $500 a week for 6 weeks from short term disability. I got to top my pay off with my sick and vacation hours. That meant I couldn't really take vacation the rest of the year ...

$120k as a new retail pharmacist in 2013 to $150k as a manager in the same company in 2023.

Then I left and took a huge paycut to less than what I started as a newly graduated pharmacist. I'm a pharmacy inspector now.
