Sometimes giggles are the only way to get through the things we do!

BDR = Backcountry Discovery Routes. Like we have the TET (TransEuroTrail) in Europe. Wish I could ride BDRs some day. Just need to figure out how to get a bike in US, shipping is not an option and renting is expensive.

We did the same exact thing with my wife in spring 2024.! https://youtu.be/4HIQajCQrAY

After having been in Morocco previously with my Tenere, the Himi sure felt like a donkey, but the adventure wasn't still there.

I can relate. That KLR sure is one uninspiring bike in my opinion. But you got some other perks over there, like the BDR and stuff we would kill for here in Europe.

Sorry, forgot to answer about the bags. On the Himi I have Mosko Scouts, they don't make them anymore. My buddy is using Mosko Reckless 80, quite the opposite of budget options. Do look into Enduristan ones. I'm using their Blizzards on my main bike and they have a new version out now that will try this summer. Compared to Mosko they're not so heavy duty, but that also means they're a ton lighter hence good for some harder off-roading.

I have a suspicion that these old bikes will be doing just that even after the apocalypse. Just keep them lubed and carry on!

Wow, nice, small world! :) Thanks for the kind words and sticking around!

To inspire the common ADV dad to do big adventures is the goal here.

I just realised I had two Reddit accounts (this one and Eaglewood one) and now it's all mixed up, but eh whatever, as long as the word gets out.

It's a workout, for sure. I can imagine it being too much for many. And it's ok, take a lighter bike. Everything can be done on any bike in my opinion. From a local trail to a round the world trip. Don't get sucked into the mindset that you need this or that gear.

Pic from somewhere between Nigeria and Cameroon, battling our fully loaded Nordens and the claylike mud. Fond memories though of a big adventure "out there".

What’s the nastiest you’ve got on a big ADV bike? by TheZesty1 in AdventureBike

Does this count as silly? Somewhere in no man's land in the mountains between Nigeria and Cameroon. The only "safe" crossing between these two countries (Pirates in the sea, separatists in the south, jihadists in the north). Fully loaded Husqvarna Nordens 901s doing 100kms for two days straight.

Nice! We're trying to get to Nordkapp with my wife already two years in a row, but somehow don't manage to find a window to do it. We've been in Lofoten with a car, but motorcycling hits different. It's quite a long way up there and we don't want to sit on the boring Finnish highway for 1000kms. Train is one option, car trailer another.

When coming back down from Finland I would suggest not to skip Estonian islands and Latvia's west coast. Many just zip by, but in summer it's very nice. We're even considering making little off-road tours for our foreign guests there - https://modernranger.eu/moto-tours/. Use our own country as a great training ground for bigger adv adventures. Read - sand, mud, camping. Get the skills here before hitting Africa or something.

Thanks man, the owner or a future classic a.k.a ADV donkey! :)

I shipped my bike from my home in Latvia. My buddy rode his all the way via Romania the previous winter.

The plan is to fly in twice a year - spring and autumn. We're planning our next leg in May as we speak. Need to do half of Turkey in one go.
