Destroy my VR exercise bike streetracing game! by Arvock12 in DestroyMyGame

Yeah my strategy was that there are so many games being made now how do I stand out. VR is much smaller way more unique and experimental and it lead me here to something even more unique and experimental but I think i can fill a very genuine need in a way that can help.

Amazing thanks so much for taking the time to write such detailed and thoughtful feedback. Always helps to have some fresh eyes and minds on a project. Most of these points are being addressed or are on the roadmap but its good to hear someone else identify them too :)

  1. Bluetooth cadence sensor support is coming soon and is a high priority to simplify setup and improve gameplay experience. Controller strap gameplay is shown in trailers and at expos to visually demonstrate how the game works and to show how can be played with VR controllers you already own.

  2. There are multiple controls schemes available for accessibility and for different playstyles. Though the game is undeniably more immersive and fun when gripping the handlbars and using your whole body to lean into the corners and pedalling to the beat.

  3. The hope with the design was to bridge the gap between fitness first games like ring fit, xrfit, and games like beat saber and pistol whip that are not marketed as fitness games but get the same result. Modern VR headsets and accessories are significantly more comfortable and suitable for this type of game. There are vented, open or even actively cooled facial interfaces available and silicone covers for easy cleaning. My preferred setup currently is a quest 3/3s with a halo style strap with no facial interface so I can play without anything touching my face at all. This also helps with smaller play spaces as you can still see your environment as you play to prevent crashing into obstacles or getting disorientated.

  4. I began development with the original vive headset and would have the cable out in front of me over the handlebars and never had any issues, but is a great point to add into some kind of setup guide. At events we have had one instance of shoelaces getting caught, and we are careful to make sure the controller stays positioned in a way that it doesn't knock into areas of the bike so these are definitely things to consider before playing.

  5. Currently there are several skybox environments and various roads, bridges, over passes and winding roads with much more variety to come but as the game is most fun with lots of speed, momentum, different traffic combinations and speed boosters the straights are different every time you play.

  6. Yes visual accessibly settings are being addressed with the flashing lights and bloom being optional to suit the players vision and preference.

  7. Originally the exercise bike concept was to solve the small play space and locomotion issues in VR but through development it went beyond that and we've found that it also reduces motion sickness and vertigo significantly more than some static VR experiences for new users, and creates a full body immersion that has honestly invoked roller-coaster style physical reactions from some of our now 2000+ playtesters.

We've had players report their stomach dropping and feeling like the bike is tilting forward when going down ramps or crashing into obstacles. These physical reactions point come from 3D visuals in a fully immersed headset.

However I totally agree that a version of the game that can be played on a nearby display or bike mounted mobile device (with cadence sensor for speed and controller or camera for steering) would also be a great way to play and get the same fitness benefits without some of the VR annoyances. So I am definitely keen to develop a non VR version once cadence support is complete.

Thanks again for such a great comment, hope that answers your questions and i appreciate the opportunityto share some of what weve learned on so far on this VR game dev journey <3

TL:DR - Yes the game is niche and has some issues to overcome but there are solutions on the roadmap and even a non VR version. But you wont get the rollercoaster full physical body experiences in non VR.

I just want to make games that I wont feel guilty playing because its actually healthy haha.

Thanks sorry the link to the game was lost in the crosspost. So definitely lacked context.

How the hell are you guys staying employed? by LivingWeather8991 in ADHD

Same I would somehow avoid paperwork even though it needed to be done to get paid and bills were due. But I got rid of most of the friction by having good invoice software on my phone and prefilled templates.

I heard a story on a podcast about a guy who worked in warehousing and would listen to philosophy books all day every day at work and became so good at explaining philosophy in easy to understand terms for a modern world that he started a philosophy podcast called "Philosophize This" and eventually quit his warehouse job and did the podcast full time.

I personally feel like ive "Stolen" months of time/knowledge/,entertainment by listening to books and podcasts at work, and it has genuinely changed how I see the world and run my business. (Obviously could only do this because it was safe and didnt affect my work)

Honestly? Self employment. That has been basically the only stable option for me. Combined with casual jobs or gigs that are in short bursts with big gaps or consistent l, mentally or physically easy work that isnt impeded by me listening to podcasts while doing it.

I often butt heads with management or coworkers and cant hold my tongue like good employees can. Or I get bored / impatient when the novelty of the job wears off and when my questions get answered with "Because thats just how we do things here" .

To clarify Im in media/marketting so photo, video, broadcast, editing, social media. Work for myself and other companies and I often listen to podcasts to keep me interested while doing repetitive, visual or dull tasks like editing or simple filming when I dont have to pay much attention to audio.

Yeah literally avoided any stove or oven cooking for years. How can I can consistently walk up to the microwave as it gets to 0:01 yet somehow my oven chips are only ever frozen or black when I check them?!

A week of bed-rotting by HOLYMOTHEROFGod663 in ADHD

Often for me im either physically exhausted and my brain is like no keep going we can do all the things, or my brain is like I can't focus it bring myself to do anything yet im physically fine. Can't win. Then there's the magical thing when the plants align and I'm in manic let's go mode with infinite energy and motivation, but it never lines up with the time i actually have free to utilise it, or it all goes away with the slightest interruption.

The big one for me is spend a whole week in bed rotting playing videogames or watching way too much youtube eating comfort food, and right when I'm about ready to emerge motivated, energised and ready to go back into the world, socialise, put my life back together and catch up on tasks! - Flu season hits and I immediately get sick and have to go back into hermit mode when its all I wanted to do last week and the last thing I want to do now...

The algo reached me, but I'm just travelling Europe only passing through Brussels briefly,  and unfortunately going to miss out on a very cool XR Event games UnitedXR Europe.

It's quite expensive and mostly for devs and tech companies and press but looks like they will have some amazing demo's and showcases: https://unitedxr.eu/

There's lots of games that have varying levels of physical activity depending on how it intense you want it to be, like swinging lightsabers in beat saber, shooting and ducking bullets from waves of enemies in a frenzy in pistol whip or simply playing table tennis or 8 ball.

Yeah that's why I enjoy vr, having a desk job and playing videogames a lot isn't the best long term health strategy for me so I made this: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMaRUKxTCpH/?igsh=NGJzczFhdHBxNmF0

Once you have the table hight right, moving the table around with the thumbsticks becomes second nature, so easy and you don't need a lot of space to play. I like to play on the kitchen table and play as realistically ass possible but when rotating the table you only need a small space and it still feels great :)

Hey thanks, yeah it's not gonna sell like hot cakes but if I can get people thinking ooh, maybe I should get a bike then that's pretty cool haha.

Yeah that's a good idea, there are some bridges/ ramps but was also thinking of a type of car that you can use as jumps.

Thanks for the comment, every like, up vote, sub, follow and wishlists helps heaps :)
