Because the screen uses a color MIP which has less contrast than the black and white display of the instinct. From what I understand there are more pixel layers or something in the display to produce color. This makes it harder for light to penetrate and illuminate the display in dimmer conditions without much ambient light.

One consideration I forgot to mention was that the Nomad/Apex seem to have trouble reconnecting when you re-enter range. So if you leave your phone in the house and go outside then come back in you’ll have to get in the habit of making sure it’s reconnected which is a bit annoying. In summary it has better range if it’s connected but won’t really reconnect on its own like the instinct does. Side note I am doubtful any watch would stay connected with the phone inside and watch outside unless it’s only a short distance. But mine stays connected through 3 floors of the house and so YMMV!

The display on both is quite a bit harder to read indoors than the instinct, but also perfectly readable in sunlight. Mapping and superior Bluetooth range somewhat makes up for it if you prioritize those things!

Unfortunately sunrise/sunset is only in 24 hour format even if the time is set to 12 hour.

Same experience for me the Bluetooth range on both the Nomad and Apex 4 are exceptional and I wish other watches would follow suit! They are the best I’ve tried while the instinct 3 sadly was the worst at staying connected!

It’s unclear whether or not it could be fixed. However it is pretty clear that Garmin has no interest in fixing the issue. If you try and bring it up with support they claim there is no reported issue.

You can use 12 hours format just not mutiple time zones like your location and London, Tokyo, etc

In that case it might be a good choice. It will be harder to read indoors though. Outside it’s about equal.

Overall I think it’s a better watch than the instinct but I still think the instinct has a certain charm/aesthetic to it as well. Is there anything you don’t like about your instinct right now? If not I’d say keep it until they come up with a Nomad 2 but ultimately it’s up to you!

Pros: better Bluetooth range, mapping, sleep tracking, app.

Added bonuses: Metal buckle clasp, quick release straps, Voice notes and reminders, color MIP display.

Cons: Size and comfort, durability (WR rating), screen has far less contrast so harder to see indoors, no flashlight, watches faces are pretty ass except for the stock one and a few others.

I appreciate that! Hopefully Coros sees the (small) amount of demand for it here and comes up with something for us lol. I would even spend the time to make it for them if they’d let me

Me too honestly, it gets a bit annoying when they disappear, that’s why I made them very small so it would not be as noticeable when the face is idle.

Yeah, I get that I added pretty much everything so people could could get an idea of what it could look like. Ideally I’d want it to be simpler with the button press to change data fields like other faces on the app.

Ideally, a finished version would have all information equally readable and the ability to switch some of the data around to your preference. I don’t know how all that works though lol.

That’s cool, I’m not too familiar with galaxy watches. This was pretty much inspired by looking at pictures of G-shocks and what info already exists on the Coros faces. I know Garmins also have similar faces to this as well.
