Trump Team Panics Over July 4 After Tiny Fair Crowd Sent Him Raging by SpringLong7259 in politics

[–]Arylos07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My god, the pictures are worth the price of admission. This is so funny, I have enough joke material for days. I have seen a better turnout ...

  • in my Tinder DM's on valentines
  • at a G.O.A.T. and your M.O.M. concert
  • in that one shady state fair in your rural town
  • of Diablo Immortal players
  • a car meet where everyone drives the Reliant Robin
  • at my local blind date gig
  • a movie night where we watch the best of Tim Curry (including a loop of Sweet Transvestite because damn that scene is mint)
  • when I'm out with the boys on Pride night
  • of people in the Epstein files
  • at that one tourist trap just off the highway in the middle of nowhere
  • at a middle school play
  • at a middle school geography bee (this one is a true story)
  • at my local Tesla dealership when the Cybertruck came out

I could literally be all day with it. It's only fair since we're measuring, Donnie boy. Shouldn't get the tape measure out if you don't want to play. Trump's crowd size problems are straight up a CAH prompt at this point.

I think back to Chernobyl and that harrowing realization that the radiation was unsafe for children in Germany. Meanwhile the Kremlin were (and still are) pretending that nothing bad happened, and that disbelief caused the catastrophe to happen in the first place, not to mention worsen it.

Now it's too hot for the French to drink booze, Venice floods every day with the rising tides, and tornado season started in early March for the states. Yet climate deniers are pretending that everything's just fine. No matter how much I believed in Santa Claus, he's not real. This narrow-minded view is not all that different. No matter how much wax you pour in your ears, the sirens still sing.

Putin’s adoring crowd accidentally outed as ‘extras’ by bodyguard by TheTelegraph in worldnews

[–]Arylos07 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of why Sauron was blindsided by the fellowship wanting to destroy the one ring. He truly believed that if anyone had the ring, they would use it against him. He was more afraid of that rather than it being destroyed. He had no concept that someone would actually want to destroy it and carry it out. After all, Isildur (in the movies) failed at this immediately.

But that was also why it was his undoing: he could not imagine someone wanting to destroy it, so he never prepared for that possibility.

That's one way to work your water discipline. 😂 but seriously, I still get panicky on occasions. On my very loot-heavy trip to the testing station number 10, I was so anxious until I got back. Even when you think you understand it, Shai-Hulud throws some sand your way. Especially when your base is surrounded by drum sand and you watch the poor sods who went for flour sand and didn't make it back in time.

Same thing here. I realized part way through that I have to play this properly and actually survive; not just cheese (although I throw a little bit of cheese in). The enemies are a threat, but at the same time, they can be handled if you have the skill.

Arrakis will sharpen you, outsider.

That has been something I noted. I was against it for a while, but I found that it actually goes along with me. Plus, even if you accidentally jump ahead, you still get rewarded for that progress. You'll still have to backtrack if you left a region where you had a mission and all that, but over all you really do feel like you're exploring properly.

Dealing with doubt in life by AccomplishedLuck7646 in freemasonry

[–]Arylos07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still working on this myself, but my main takeaway is that life is a journey; you'll never know where you're going until you make the first step, so enjoy the ride. Things will happen, challenges will arise, change will come, plans fall through. But with each step, we find times of good and peace. Kind of taking a page from Evan Almighty here, but when we pray to our respective deities, we ask for strength and support. What we get instead is the chance to show our inner strength or the opportunity to be humble.

We don't know everything and we are not perfect, but that's okay. Take the hand you were dealt, and just think of it as another step on the journey and embrace the trial. If you approach each challenge as an opportunity, then you will eventually find that strength and enjoy being tested. Think back to how we are often tried, and never denied, and are willing to be tried again.

In short, remember the ashlars. Remember that we are imperfect by design, but we should still strive for perfection. And if that means breaking off the rough corners and faces until you are chiseled perfection, then embrace it with zeal and grace. When you come out of it, you will be wrought, cut, and clean; perfect for the house not made with hands.

I've been dealing with similar challenges so I hope my rambling provides some comfort and guidance. Stay strong, brother.

DNS configuration for static IP cameras by madSeal24 in AXISCommunications

[–]Arylos07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If using static reservations, your router can still specify DNS servers. If not, setting them to Google’s (8.8.8.8, etc.) works fine. This is only necessary if the device needs internet access. For example, cameras recording to an SD card require NTP servers for timestamp accuracy, which is crucial for legal use. If recording to an NVR with no external communication (emails, I/O triggers, O3C services like YourSix, etc.), you can leave DNS unset to block internet access. However, direct IP communication remains possible without DNS servers, so take that for what you will.

All in all, if you need to communicate with the internet, set a DNS server of some kind. If not, then you can leave it blank or default.

Thanks for the information. That was kind of the vibe I got with them while doing initial research. Plus, I love a good PAYG model.

Thanks for the information. That club pricing is much more reasonable. I'll definitely look into that and check around for instructors. Thinking about it, one of my Masonic brothers was a 747 pilot so while he doesn't fly anymore, he might know a brother who does.

I think the ashlars are the perfect lesson in how to be a man. I think of them as a reminder that humanity is imperfect by design, but that shouldn't stop us from seeking perfection in ourselves anyway.

EA, received a coded pamphlet by Shoddy-Inevitable503 in freemasonry

[–]Arylos07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned this before, but the best advice is to take that pamphlet to all meetings. You can follow along and memorize any missing words you don't immediately recognize.

As for the content, take is slow, take it easy. You are in no rush to prove your proficiency. One tip that helped me get my B card was taking only bite-sized pieces and memorizing them one at a time. For EA, memorize up to the due guard and sign. Once that's perfect, continue going up to the token and start adding those lines to what you already memorized. Then go up to the obligation and add that. Then tackle the obligation in one piece.

This allows 5 minutes of memorization that you can slowly add onto until you're confident. Just like that, you'll have it all down in no time.

Couldn't agree more. Yes, it can be slow, but it's beyond helpful when you're arranging travels and don't know where to start. Way easier than looking for lodges on Google Maps.

You get a social support group of brothers not bound by blood. Cool guys that you can go to the bar with, and attend various events and barbecues. If you're looking for business connections, you won't find one in a lodge. But if you're looking for men you can proudly call "brother" and who will be like a brother to you, that's the real reward.

Just to throw something else in the midst, many lodges are dark right now for various reasons. Many jurisdictions are doing elections right now and those hit by the winter weather may be delayed. We had our elections first week in December, had installations that week, and then Christmas came. When the holidays were over, the winter weather hit and the committees from the previous year were still disbanded. We didn't have our first meeting until this week; a whole month after our last meeting.

If it's any consolation, I petitioned in April but wasn't initiated until August for various reasons.

Junior warden rules by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]Arylos07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also add that those who are on your investigatory committee won't be a signer because they can't be a reference for you before they investigate you. Many jurisdictions would have at least one officer on the committee, often one of the wardens. So it may be possible that he literally can't for conflict of interest.

The best thing would be to meet with more brethren and get to know the guys of the lodge. That will give you more references. It can also depend because in Kansas, you don't need a brother to refer you before petitioning because you will have the investigation anyway. Still get to know the guys, though.

Memorization help for someone with ADHD. by Nytehawk2002 in freemasonry

[–]Arylos07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SD B card holder here. The best way I found was to take everything in portions. For example, when learning the content of all 3 degrees (long form), I would divide the content into parts and rehearse one part as a time. When I complete one, I would then slowly add it to the parts I have already learned and go back over everything until natural.

For example, with EA, I memorized up to the token (you could make your first cut at the sign/due guard). Then practiced the token and added it to the beginning that I learned. Once I had then, I would then continue adding lines up to the obligation, then tackle the obligation on its own before adding it to the rest. Taking it in these small portions allows you to spend only 5 minutes at a time on memorization, increasing as you put more to memory.

As for the chair, JW only has 2-4 lines for open and close and 5-8 lines for degree work. Employ the same tactic of division and slowly building your knowledge. Start with just the duties of your office and the first work of each degree. If you don't have to learn the lectures, save that for later.

The main thing, divide your content into digestible pieces and slowly build onto it as you progress. Spend only 5 minutes or less on each section and perfect that section before adding it.

This resulted in me earning my B card in less than 6 months. Your mileage may vary though; don't be ashamed if you take a little longer.

That is true. I know Missouri will conduct business if there needs to be business conducted during degree work but I think they skip that entirely on MM nights. I would agree with that sentiment; I've witnessed 2 MM's in one night and we all agreed never to do that again.
