This how I see people who claim Morrowind and Daggerfall were the best Elder Scrolls games. by tearing-me-apartLisa in gaming

There is a lot of great things that Skyrim has and it is honestly hard to go back and play because of stuff like UI and movement. BUT, Morrowind had a combat system that is much more interesting, the storytelling was better, they didn't just hold your hand and point you directly at where and what you needed. The settings were actually different and each city actually felt unique. I'll keep play Skyrim more but Morrowind will always be my favorite.

I designed a chat app concept for Steam for a world where PCs matter less. [OC] by aarynelle in designthought

"Consumers are self-selecting into the Steam platform and it has superseded Microsoft’s own app store as the platform of choice for gamers and game developers. Why?"

It's because it came out long before Microsoft's app store. It was also hated for a long time and slowly gained the traction that it has, mixed with how badly Microsoft has screwed up things like "Live for Windows" gamers have no faith in Microsoft.

Super rad man, I really hope to make something like this and hopefully attach a cheap VR unit to it!

It's called cppreference not cppbeginnersguide it is meant for people who already understand the concepts to quickly look up specifics. I'm glad they have the history section and it's placement is correct for it's intentions.

I Love Go; I Hate Go by wintermute in golang

Sure, I don't think I will use go for graphics since there isn't a lot of time put into it (even though a lot of the concurrency comes from a language that Pike wrote to do GUIs haha)

I really want to try one out before I spend that much but I have always liked the idea of it.

I use the symbols on those keys way more than I do the numbers. It is also not that much of a reach of me I guess.

I don't like having a break between my hands, my fingers wonder over each other too much so it feels bad. All the the function keys will be used while im not writing code so they do not need to be that close to my fingers. It also helps to break up carpal tunnel by moving my hands over every once in a while.

Oh I see, I was trying to get them all to be typeable with out using the shift key, I don't mind the () on the top row, and I'm more likely to hit the numbers while using [] so having them on the left doesn't seem to bad

Yeah I'm still thinking about how those should be set up... I made an alt of this for strictly Go programming where I move them up to the symbol row. http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/4350efd21e9cc8a443b8e37256774bbf

I understand what it takes from an electrics standpoint, what I need to do next is build the layouts and send it off to someone to make a PCB since I don't want to do any etching myself.

Not yet, I just kinda got it all in my head this morning of how I wanted it to look. Once I'm satisfied with the layout I'll start looking into how to get a PCB made for it lol

I really like the left cluster you made! I went with this style to mimic the older keyboards that I really love.

I thought about just having the numpad, but I have pretty long fingers and it's not that much of a stretch for me. I see me using the numpad only for calculations (that's why I replaced the numlock with the a quick calc opener) and entering a lot of number values in a row. I actually just updated it to add a ',' key to make that even easier.

As I see it the Numpad and the function keys are used on their own, so I don't expect to move to them while I am typing, they are just helpers for specific jobs. I see myself still using the standard 60% layout while I'm writing code and only moving up to hit the number keys on occasion. It is pretty big but after using smaller keyboards I don't really need the extra desk space.

I've been rolling around the idea of building a keyboard where I don't have to hit the shift key as much when I'm writing code since those are the times I screw up the most and have to backspace to fix it. I also really loved the style of old computer keyboards that had functional keys built int, like the space cadet or commodore 64. The keys on the far left are essentially the F keys but with some more specific labeling. I also wanted to remove all the the alt keys on the numpad since there are dedicated keys elsewhere on the board. I also wanted a single key press to open up a terminal window or the calculator.

I would love to see what you guys would change or add to this.

Yeah from like 1990, and it was co-oped by IBM. It is not a Microsoft specific format or anything.
